Good enough pies to land a hattie in the 1st test.

I guess when he's 30 and averaging 35 you'll still be using this line to justify his selection?

Just like you when Watson has played 50 Tests and only averages 35 with the bat.

Watson has been in awesome form of late. But he needs to start turning his starts into big 100's. Two 100's in 24 tests isn't good enough. lets say he fails in this test ( hope he dosn't ) his average will drop under 40 as a batsman. Thats ok if your batting 6 and taking the odd wicket, but as a opener he needs to do more than that. He is looking as good as any Australian batsman at the moment, but like I said needs to turn that form into a match winning 100, not a 40 or 50. Today his country needs him more than ever, It's time to stand up and become a genuine test player.

Good point
But
are we talking about Watson the opener or Watson that used to bat at 6 +7

The opener averages 50+ as an opener in Test Matches
Yes he needs to turn 50s into 100s
But some others need to turn 0s into 50s as well

Now leave the iconic SAFOOTY allrounder alone !

Talking bout Watson as the Test player. One form slump away from having a pretty ordinary record.

Here's your chance Watto, time to stand up and lead from the front.
