I think you may be a bit behind with the news, hereselmo1. Maybe refer the SANfl press release or Adelaide now article.

I love that there are some clubs willing to have a go at the competition.
If it fails like alot of people expect, then it will fade from our memories pretty quickly.

If it does succeed in 2011 and is a better competition than expected, the interest levels from the non-participating teams will increase - But it'll be on the back of it not really being a Champions league.

I'm not really sure what the whole idea is trying to achieve:
Expanding Aussie Rules, expanding local teams fanbase, $$$$$, player exposure or is it the kickstart to reserves/2nd National competition or all of the above?

This competition could lead into a National comp with Conferences, Divisions etc.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

Eddie McGuire wouldn't let them play in their prison bar uniform...

But Swan Districts would be o.k?

Who is Eddie McGuire? ;)

Statement
Proposed ‘Champions League’

The Glenelg Football wishes to make the following statement to its members
and key stakeholders concerning its decision not to participate in the proposed
Champions League in 2011.
1. Firstly, we did not earn the right to participate on our own merit. We
finished fourth in the 2010 SANFL Premiership (the top 3 SANFL clubs
qualified for an initial invitation).
2. Secondly, we have just completed a comprehensive football review and are
clearly committed to doing whatever it takes to win our next SANFL
Premiership. Our Club's firm view, following consultation with all internal
stakeholders including our highly respected medical team, is that
participating in this proposed 2011 ‘Champions League’ may compromise the
plans we have in place to challenge for the 2011 SANFL Premiership.
3. Thirdly, there are a number of unresolved factors with regard to conditions of
participation in the competition as currently presented by the AFL including
costs and associated commercial implications including sponsorship rights.
Notwithstanding the above, our Club remains broadly supportive of the concept for
such a competition and see some merit in future participation should the issues be
addressed and we earn the right to participate in the future.
The Club wishes to make it clear it spent considerable time in reaching this position
having considered all factors based on the information available.

I think swan districts and North Ballarat would class themselves as successful. There is only 1 successful team from the countries premier comps that have said no thanks.
