The SANFL changed the rules to correct a glaring mistake from 14 years ago.

The Government changed the rules so North Adelaide could own a Pokie Pub attached to a shopping centre, an advantage not available to other clubs at the time. Don't remember North Adelaide mentioning THAT ONE in their recent website rant.

But move on, we're talking on-field.

Why on earth should Port Adelaide be denied any access to players drafted by Port Adelaide?

The glaring mistake that was a necessary part and parcel of their approach to the sanfl/afl bid?
The glaring mistake to buy a business within spitting distance of their pre-existing core?
Or the glaring mistake to think that harking back and stressing magpie wouldn't alienate supporters of other sanfl clubs whó started supporting port adelaide power as they didn't like the crows?

Ah, its all rhetorical now anyway...

The magpies come under administrative control of the power with the unstated goal (in this proposal anyway) of it eventually becoming a reserves side for the power so i can understand the feeling in not allowing port the opportunity to nab crows listees but probably should be allowed to nab power interstate listees.

Oh the Paranoia.

Many of the conditions were imposed after the License bid.
The POW was the only pub they could afford after spending the majority of their $$ setting up new facilities at Ethelton.
The PAFC did attempt to move away from the SANFL History in the early days. It had a great effect, new members didn't jump on and Traditional supporters jumped off.

And finally, it is the "Stated position" of the AFC to investigate a Reserves side and the PAFC will leave it alone.

But the original point still stands, Port Adelaide are DISadvantaged on-field if there are only Crows Draftees left but no-one cares.

No wonder they look out for themselves![/quote]

I'd be happy to exclude them from the SANFL and let them play with their friends in the VFL.

I can't recall any changes to the mini-draft rules nor can I think of any good reason why the Magpies shouldn't draft a Crow. After all, looking at it from the other direction, Magpie Milera has just become a Crow without any problem.

looks like South have picked a likely rebounding defender and long term prospect in Cameron O'Shea

Ben Jacobs was thought to be likely to be playing a few AFL games next year so therefore South went for the long term needs prospect imo

I was hoping Port were going to select him, I don't expect him to play much for the Crows

Pretty sure that Port could not select him as with the merger they cannot select any Crows listed player.

Will have another read of the merger thread, but for a quick answer....Do Power players go to the Maggies?

Wont make any difference this time around as Port have an early pick and got themselves a good PAFC player anyway, yet should the pool drop down at a later draft they may well end up having to miss a pick and the next club up from them gaining that pick. I doubt the SANFL have bothered to forecast what any compensation would be if that occured.

For the exact reason you state, that we're never going to see him. He won't disrupt our squad coming in and out of the team. The Crows will be throwing around some youngsters next season due to the fact they've lost a couple of older players so they can see who will stand up so IMO it's better that we went for an established (albeit crap) player.

I agree .. If your list is decent that you can rely on it alone, then you either don't want the hassle if weekly in's and out's and should you see Tambling here and there at least you should be inecting higher quality into the group for those given matches.

Horses for courses selection and I reckon with where the Blues are at, it's a right one.
