Spot on Doggah as i have said before lets have an authentic national Aussie Rules Comp and not the AFL ( VFL ) crap or the Premier league which is a badly conceived farce and sham but i guess there are a lot of gullible people around that have been seduced by the AFL in watching insipid, sanitised, pretty football what a joke , spot on with your comments as well Cutterman, today some of the younger footy followers have been conned and duped by the AFL, however most of us older footy followers who have been around and watching footy for over 40 years know better, so as far as i am concerned you can shove the Premier League where it fits.

West are in.

I'd prefer we weren't playing in this as i believe our focus should be solely on the SANFL but the only point i agree with Kym Russell on is that the opportunity to get game time into some of our kids is a positive.

I'm disappointed I don't have an excuse to go to Sydney for the first time. However, I am also happy that we and the other clubs have made a stand against all the AFL induced conditions set out.

But I also wish West Adelaide the best of luck in the competition. I hope you win the thing - if you do, there will be no argument from anyone that we are the best League outside the AFL.

"The Foxtel Game Day Experience Pre Match Entertainment Provided You Get There Early Time Filler Cup" anyone ?

.....and exactly what League Championship did the "Greater Western Sydney Giants" win ?

I'm concerned at what this withdrawal of the top clubs will do for the image of our competition. On one side, the clubs see no benefit to them in playing an under-funded competition.

On the other, does it make our clubs look bad in the eyes of the rest of the nation? Are we now adopting the arrogant attitude we associate with the AFL by not taking part? It looks like a no-win situation... and we would play right into the AFL's hands as a result -- we play and we could end up opening the doors to the AFL's possible takeover or we don't play and the SANFL's kings could be made to look weak in the face of a challenge.

As much as I hate to admit it and don't want it to happen... I think that the AFL's takeover of our much-followed competition may be inevitable.

I got no real problem with GWS being in there but how does the fifth best team in the QAFL get a guernsey?? NT Thunder being in is the biggest compromise to the integrity of the competition IMO. It basically says this isn't a fair dinkum competition just an opportunity to show case talent to the scouts.

Fair dinkum South 2s would beat NT Thunder
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

well it now looks like happening i want to ask a couple of questions

1, if a 'state league player' (hate that term) gets badly injured on an afl ground will the afl compensate him for loss of income & medical fees etc etc ?

2, sponsorships, if a club has a sponsorship from one company & the afl is sponsored by a rival company what would happen to the clubs jumpers in terms of their advertising on them etc etc ??

i have more questions but will start with those two
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

There are sponsorship clashes in the AFL already so cant see that being an issue, in fact it could be a way of making extra $$$ for the SANFL club, they could easily sell the jumper rights to another company for this competition as existing agreements would be for SANFL only.

My understanding is that it doesn't matter if a competing club has sponsorship that conflicts or is even completely different .. The guernseys will be made up to all include the competition sponsors (not club sponsors), and club major sponsors get offered sponsorship space on the shorts.

bp, they basically said it on 5AA tonight with the ''kris grant said we're still working it through'' & something about having 4 byes & they'll play in this other 'showcase comp' on those weeks presuming they get that far

could central (or any other club) be allowed to have their retired stars like schell, buckets etc etc to help with the workload ?

Why? The Bays for example played close to 60 kids in the U18's this season just gone. Would be better off playing those kids and give them a chance to shine....

why for the exact opposite reason it is an 'afl' competition & then it wouldn't help them with their recruiters watching 30 year olds running around

while i'm here another question if a player gets reported then suspended they can obviously still win the magarey medal, j j liston trophy etc etc but f he gets games should his suspended games come from that competition or does he miss out playing for his club in their next 'state' home & away match ??......i can see a mark viska type of situation happening here

My understanding is that each club can have 1 sponsor on their jumpers but the AFL has to ok it. I think this and the other issue you brought up are some of the main issues the SANFL clubs have with the whole concept.

According to press reports, Central District, Norwood, Woodville/West Torrens, Glenelg and Sturt have all passed, with West Adelaide, North Adelaide and Port Adelaide all advising the SANFL they will play if given an invitation (as have South Adelaide, if, for any reason, any of the other three drop out).
