5 of their 7 top players from the 2009 senior colts flag are looking at leaving because the club has made no contact with them about next year and are showing little interest in retaining them.

most of the players they recruited for last season are moving back to their original clubs and there are some local blokes who are considering moving on.

what the hell is happening down at the southern blues?

Very interesting as when I spoke to the coach last week he said things are looking up at Kangys, signing a few players and still in talks with plenty more. Be interesting to see the outcome then.

I have heard from a few young long time local lads who have been loyal and invoived at the blues for years, that they are not likeing how the club is being ran and the general vibe around the place. Would be a shame to see the roo's go down so swiftly considering they won the flag there first year back in the HFL! but it has been a bit of a down slide from there? I agree with u there "what the Hell is going on at the southern blues"

Some of these guys are a bit PRECIOUS aren't they???

when your are 17-18 years of age, not really good enough to play A grade and the club, which has helped you be successful through juniors give you a chance at the top level, shouldn't you be greatful???

trying to tell the club that they dont do enough for them? for f**k sake, the wakefields, thorpes etc went through the tough times and came out the other side with flags. and that was because they were loyal to the club they love.

Where is the loyalty? you play for the club you love... its not what the club can do for you, its what you can do for your club!

these young boys need to change things if they dont like it, be leaders!

Great comments EB. All too often these days, young fellas coming up think it's the club's priviledge to have them playing for the club - when they need to realise it's a priviledge for THEM to be playing FOR the club.
There are way too many players (most of them younger) these days that have always got their hand out wanting stuff from the club - the worse thing is, the majority of the time it is these players that do bugger all around the club (off the field) to help try and build the club into a successful one.
Unfortunately the players don't take enough ownership of their club and take a bit of responsibility in the way it is run.
I'm hoping down the track, the new points system may change this the other way. It will make it harder for players to change clubs so often which will then make it more difficult for players to try and hold the club to ransom when they're probably not worth what they're asking for.

By the way, the Switala rumour is just that.

Well said, these young players seem very precious. Seems like they are more interested in getting their ego stroked than playing footy. Now is the perfect time for these guys to stand up and get some A grade games if they are good enough, they can then change the club culture and have a voice.

You play for your club, not your ego.

Well i heard Birdwood trained in town on Wednesday Night with a bumper turnout of 9. Can't be too many people keen on the club yet at this stage. Maybe in the new year?

9! Are all the locals at Birdwood ticked off that they're paying astronomical numbers for their recruits, yet the locals get a pie with sauce per game? They've lost a few over the years eg the Amber Bros, Davis Bros, Battams, etc, etc

Davis' and Ambers were more issues with coaches i think you'll find.
Had 20 at training on Monday, so it's a bit up and down but I find it hard to believe to many clubs would be getting huge numbers out pre christmas.

Battams probably thought he was better off without Birdwood too, at least he played in an A grade premiership!

Didnt Birdwood go up to div 1 for the sake of their juniors it looks as though these lads are not repaying the club with alot moving on over the last couple of years would this be the result of the big dollars being spent on recruits rather than spending it on upgrading their velodrome oval or their poor lights

The only reason McGahey and Krieg are at Birdwood is because of the massive coin. From what I'm told some of the local lads have caught wind of how much they are on as well as some of the new recruits and they are now looking elsewhere. I've also heard at least one of the so called 'new recruits' hasn't signed and is now speaking with other clubs from another league.

Adam maybe one but not the one I know of. I know the bloke in question and I don't think he'd be happy if I named him just yet.

It must have been very late at the pub because yes Kersbrook may have spoken to him but they can't make anyone a huge offer just can't match the $ the other clubs have to offer

Agree with all those comments.

Know in my time there were always these sorts of issues and the youngsters would leave the club to go to what they thought was a 'better club' but they soon found out they weren't as good as what they thought they were and within a year or two of leaving they'd dropped out of footy completely.
I particularly agree with the 'bugger all around the club' comment as there's a lot of juniors around who've absolutely no idea what it takes to run a club but I guess it's partly a reflection of the 'me, me, me' society that we live in.
