tarcs has been a consistant performer all season. I'm thinking he'll get a full time gig behind the stumps after chrissy ;)

How did Pidge bowl on Turf?

1st Gully does bowl well, creates chances for bowling partners and IMO is wasted in that graveyard that is EUCCC!!!

2nd well im sure only you would know about tarcs and his chances after xmas :P but i think PV must feel pretty comfortable knowing they have someone of his calibre to take over.

3rd i though Pidge's 1st few overs were very VERY good. I was suprised actually, he hit really good areas, forced the batsman into shots and looked a genuine threat. The tea break came too soon though and after that, i thought he fell away, bowled too full and struggled for his line.

He needs to have the ball that swings back into the right hander in his arsenal. He doesn't hit the stumps enough for a bowler of his seniority in that team. Being 'unlucky' can only cut if for so long. Third carnival most likely for Gulls and he needs to step up amongst these young lads and lead the way.

Yep, you need to chalk up a few more poles before you retire mate.. ;)

Pidge bowled really well. Stiffened up a bit at the lunch break. He now knows he needs to do 5mins of warm ups after a break like that right in the middle of your spell to avoid it happening again. ;) It's all a learning curve.

Don't you think that's a bit rough on Gully? I mean 1st of all with the way he bowls and his action i cant see him being able to bowl innies, 2nd of all why wouldn't you take a bloke who bowls the areas he does, tie them down and create pressure? After all bowling is just as much about partnerships as batting is!

Also if you want him to attack the stumps more, perhaps let him set his own field? He was bowling to what a 7-2 field today? You want him to bowl straighter at least give him some cover through mid wicket.

Maybe a bit rough mate, but I tend not to gloss over my thoughts (if you hadn't noticed.. ;) ) and I think he needs to assume more responsibility. He's no longer the gangly kid with the 'fro.. Hang on.. Who am I kidding..?? You know what I mean. ;) I believe he can step up, otherwise I wouldn't have that expectation. And of course he'll need a change of field attacking the stumps.. Derrr!

with gully, we both know he is "simple", you need a pro active skipper whose going to tell him where to bowl and what to do.
Dutchy is good, but he set the field today for gully and gully bowled accordingly.
Gully isnt clever enough to set his own field, he just goes back runs in and delivers every ball in the same sort of area, he doesnt really think a batsman out.

haha your kidding me right Phantom?? yes at Club Level i let the captain set the field but if i dont like it i will switch the field around accordingly. my ideal field is 2 slips,a gully, fineleg, mid on,mid off, point, square leg and a cover..obviously that might change depending on the type of batsmen..isn't that a field???

i can pitch the ball where i want 95% of the time except yorkers (which i struggle with) so if i wanted to bowl straight today i could have but Dutchy told me to bowl on the off stump or just outside of it and with a 7-2 field i thought it would be best to follow his orders.

correct me if im wrong but i have always thought thinking a batsmen out was to bowl to his weaknesses and stay away from his strengths for examples if i was to bowl to Baldo i would have mixed up the pace and not given him any room to free his arms..for Hoddo i would bowl the exact same areas as 2day and frustrate him in playing a shot that isn't there to play..for Wrighty i would bowl middle-leg stump and give him nothing short for his cut shot and last but not least for Dutchy well i would just bowl him slower balls every ball :p so im sure you get my point!!!

Wino..i have tried every seam position possible so if you could teach me to bowl innies..i would love you long time  :x :p

Bad luck to the association side on the weekend, these things happen in cricket unfortunately but it's how you bounce back from it that is the important thing. At the end of the day there were a few guys that hadn't played at that level before so it's all good experiene for them and i'm sure they will learn from it and improve.

To all those in the association side (or would like to be) who are playing for their clubs in a lower grade than Div 1, please consider changing clubs (not a recruitment drive for NEK here) so that you can play more cricket at a higher level. Gully, Dutchy etc. You are good solid cricketers who need to be and deserve to be playing Div 1 cricket.

Goat, sorry to hear there was no support on the day from the exec, a disgrace in all honesty considering the amount of work you and the players put into these games. Rest assured they will be on the plane to Sydney with you though! wouldn't miss the chance to have a cheap holiday!

Not to worry mate, we move on. ;)

But it's fair to say that without the efforts of OB & myself yesterday, the match wouldn't have happened. Between organising the shirts (which ones fitted who); caps; the players themselves; organising a key for the changerooms & toilets for players and spectators; having to score; pick up & organising lunch (thanks Auto for offering to do this! ;) ); organise drinks; and actually do what I was supposed to be there for (coach!), I think that's more than enough between 2 people to have to do.. Thanks again to OB, who was just a workhorse all day. If we had more people like him in this Association, everything wouldn't be left to just 2ppl. Suffice to say things need to change on an Exec level in future to ensure avoiding a repeat performance of what we were subjected to yesterday.

Only 13 days left until we board the plane bound for Sydney. Bring it on! 8)
