Samllest amount of clubs and by far the lowest participation rate in programs such as Auskick. South has been working extremely hard for as number of years on addressing some of these problems. Won't go into it here (if interested read Ron Fullers latest blog on the SAFC Website).

South's area is also made up of a large number of very financial clubs who in the end compete with South for developing and fringe players.

Interesting article on the Salaries of an AFL Rookie...

Looking at an Ian Callinan situation, he would have likely had to take a pay cut (given up full time work and payment from Central) to go on an AFL Rookie wage.

This is a poor quote from Scott Lucas - "Also, it's not necessarily what the players are paid but what the game can afford".
Steve Bradbury and Michael Milton. Aussie Legends.

Just remember that is a base pay of $30,000. If they get upgraded to the senior list they then get an upgrade on their salary as well as getting match payments.

Callinan if he gets upgraded and plays 20 games would end up with a pay check of approximately $100,000

It should also be noted that the $30,000 is a minimum, Rookies can get paid more.

At least then he wouldn't be too much worse off. :D

Has Kris put him down for 'weeding the garden' in Book One again?

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned but I'm sorry for Matthew Rankine over his non drafting.
I know he needs to improve his consistency but the recruiters have got it wrong this time. Has every tool in the book to be a success.

Just becuase a bloke is not gregarious shouldn't be a mark against him.

With Rankine I dont think the recruiters got it wrong.

It doesn't necessarily mean they dont think he isn't good enough but a small body like that sometime develops better in the SANFL system rather than being on an AFL list.

I would think most clubs would be relly interested to see how he develops next year.
