National 2nd Tier Competiton Discussion

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Maybe the comp should include all clubs from the state leagues, with the games all played on designated weekends throughout the season. No state-league games would be scheduled on these weekends, much like no league games are scheduled when FA Cup ties are played in England.

After what Centrals have done to the SANFL you would think the other clubs would jump at the opportunity to get their hands on any kind of silverware !
You think your teams are so dominant and would flog every other side in this comp yet you all go running 100 mile an hour in the opposite direction !
Week as piss SANFL clubs, you must know that North Ballarat and Williamstown would cut you to bits.
Go and hide in your corner with your little 9 team league.
Sit back and watch the AFL money dry up going into the SANFL.
Mr AFL wont put up with little brother telling them what they will and wont do !

I've been wondering the same thing. Are they all in? If so, why is the prizemoney, timing of games etc. ok for them and not for us?

Barto, what's the reaction been like over in the WAFL?

Tend to agree with your earlier comments Vic Spy ...we are not that dominant and we are no certainty to beat any VFL or WAFL teams.
The rest of your comments ? Get xxxxed !
We are not here as a League to bow down and accept crap from the AFL. Those arseholes are showing total disrespect to our League and the rest of the state Leagues with what they are proposing money wise.
Maybe in Victoria the VFL means nothing but here in SA the SANFL is thriving and is growing yearly in support for those who like good hard tough football as opposed to basketball like television dominated football.

You have a club, and a great club in Centrals win 9 out of the last ten flags and you seriously think your comp is heading in the right direction ?

If I was a North Melbourne fan what the SANFL clubs do with a ill-conceived proposed competition would be the least of my concerns. And I wouldn't be calling anyone else 'little.'

Run away now and watch Box Hill play Preston/Northern Bullants/Carlton or whoever they are this season.

Yes. Attendances have been rising for several years now and I'm sure most VFA(L) clubs would love to have our average attendances for games. The brand of Football is much different to the V(A)FL tripe forced upon us by the Media.

Other things are also moving forward. I heard a whisper this week that a SANFL club is about to approach an other club with a proposal to play Good Friday night football in future. Much like the Collingwood/Essendon ANZAC Day monopoly......

Sounds like the AFL want the participating clubs to wear new guernsey designs for the comp too. This comp sounds increasingly dodgy by the day.

Or possibly current designs minus current sponsor logos? I thought that comment from Dom was interesting too .. Matt Benson's was perhaps the most succinct for mine.

I'm very proud of the stance of some of the clubs have taken, to accept these terms is a joke. To have the AFL dictate what our teams wear and which 1 sponsor we choose to display, once ok'd by Demitriou mind you, just insults everything that all of these clubs have worked so hard for to remain viable and to keep their own identities.
A serious thought. Now that they are merged, just how much say would Port Magpies have in this, and would their expenses from competing in this comp be paid by them or Power?

Port Magpies have a maximum spend of $1.36 million (I think). Unless underwritten by the proposed comp, would come out of that. It is this unknown (who pays for what) that has seen most clubs baulk.

I don't think it has been written in any of the articles, I think Brucetiki picked up on the comments of your CEO and put 2 and 2 together...

Whilst you are often very much on the button with your rumours Doc, I think this time around you may find that it is West Adelaide that are pushing for it!

Haven't really heard much publicly from the WAFL. No one at the footy club has even mentioned it.

Interestingly, last Friday the WAFL announced the date for a state game against Queensland for next year, you'd think that wouldn't have been programmed in if there was a national comp going ahead.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

If it even gets off the ground at all, watch it die a quick death afterwards...too many issues such as sponsor conflicts, cash, logistics problems etc...

IMHO, it would only work (forgetting other parts of the problem) here in Adelaide if it's played at suburban grounds such as Elizabeth, Richmond, Norwood, Thebarton or Adelaide as I don't think you'll get more than 15,000 to a match here. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i've heard that one Centrals match will be a curtain raiser to the Crowbots Vs the Poofs...who (asking every SANFL fan here not just Dogs) would want to line up for a ticket to a curtain raiser match (could possibly be a sell out) and go to the match and stay for the AFL game??? F**k that! I'd walk out before that match and hand my pass out to some lucky person lining up for a ticket...
