Just a warning about a current scam doing the rounds. I got called at home this evening by some bloke with a thick Indian accent claiming to be doing security for Windows, and that a computer at my address had been detected as having some sort of virus problem, and would I please start up my computer so he could walk me through a procedure to check it out?
Knowing this was a scam straight away, I asked the guy for information about my Windows licence number etc, none of which he could give me. Then I wasted 10 minutes of his time while he tried to convince me to click "Start", and I pretended not to know what he was on about, until finally asking "I'm actually running Linux, is that why I can't find the Start menu?" This befuddled him completely; he had no concept at all of what Linux was. When he worked out that I didn't actually have Windows installed he claimed to have had a wrong number and hung up

I did a quick google search to confirm this was a scam. Apparently what they do is claim that your computer is infected with viruses after you've looked at the Event Viewer, then charge you money for their services to keep your computer clean for a year.
