I don't dispute that it is reasonable but think grahaml is on the money, int hat you are talking about professional athletes who ahve been in a culture of earn what you can whilst you can as you are a long time retired. Whilst we may not like it given our passion for our clubs I can certainly understand the bahviour of players who chase the $$$ and or break contracts to take better offers.

When did Rob De Jongh last play for West?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Cheers for that, wasn't sure if it was this year or not. Saw him at Perth training on Monday evening and wondered who he was when he mentioned that he played for Norwood and West.

Alan Obst has officially signed.

2011 Recruit - Alan Obst
The Central District Football Club is excited to announce the signing of a former Premiership Player in key position big man ALAN OBST.

Alan, who is 23 years of age, was listed with the Adelaide Crows in 2006. 2007 saw him play with our Club and participate in the 2007 Premiership. In 2008, he was Rookie listed with the North Melbourne Football Club, and remained on their list until the completion of this season. During that period, Alan was elevated to North Melbourne’s main list in season 2008 and played 3 AFL games, and was elevated again in 2009 and played 2 AFL games.

Alan is a tall rangy lad who can play both up forward and in defence, and at times played on a wing with Werribee (his host Club) in the VFL. He is a good mark, strong at the football and will be an ideal addition to our Club with the retirement of Daniel Schell.

Apparently Brad Vassal and Salim Hassan have both retired due to work committments.

Joe Anderson (Carlton) and Cameron Stokes (Hawthorn) are training with Sturt at the moment.

I'd find it slightly less objectionable if the players actually admitted that as the reason for choosing their club (when that's the case) , instead of trotting out the piffle they do. If it's so acceptable (as it is to a fair percentage of posters here) why do the players decline to mention it amongst the raft of reasons given?

Or those clubs that go out and recruit the type of players they need.Rather than those that sit back and wait to see how many they lose in the drafts!!
No good complaining your club should be proactive rather than reactive!! As mine has been !

Are you sure about Joey??? http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2010/12/07/199181_ntsport.html

Sturt may have a bit of competition for both Joey and Cameron, though.

Did West issue an email when Tiller signed with the Eagles, consistent with the one it issued after Eagleton signed with Norwood? If not, why not?

Also, ironic that Kym Russell switched clubs himself in similar circumstances. (I'm sure it was a club context though, not an individual context. Nonetheless, Kym must have felt a little sheepish putting his name at the bottom of the email  ).

It's a good sign (although not always a guarantee) when the players are actually training with a club.

Perhaps, after dealing with him, they weren't as disappointed by his decision as they were by Eagleton's.

It's not so much a matter of seeing who you lose in the drafts (as it's mainly kids usually) , it's more waiting to see who's available after the drafts.
Anyway, how do you sign 3 or 4 quality recruits on good money without knowing what your squad (and therefore your total player payments) is going to look like?

I understand what your saying nickname .Under Ron Fuller and the old regime thats what the Eagles did .Under "gods" and the new regime Eagles have gone out and recruited what they need.
Or in other words Eagles needed a CHB and signed one, eagles needed a midfielder/forward signed one etc etc.
In regards to players getting drafted.I bet your club(and any sanfl club) knew just as my club did. Which of their players junior or seniors had interest shown in them by AFL clubs.I certainly was told by club officials when interest from AFL teams had waned !
Perhaps being proactive comes into play over reactive(my workplace could also follow that but thats off topic) .
I also know there was a Port Melbourne player in the stand at Wednesday nights training (at Thebie ) .Pitty we didn't sign him up he looked like a footy player. ;)
