Well - we've all got to have one guilty pleasure and mine's Ice Ice Baby!

Surely he was Eminem's hero - paving the way for white boys in the industry. lol

Not the stand outs (which are of course St Nick Cave and New Order for mine) but the stuff I loved is St Etienne, Ride, The Chills, The Hummingbirds and The Underground Lovers, as it's rare I see them on a list like this!

Of those I particularly love The Chills and Ride.

Will contribute my top 25 soon.

Cool! I look forward to seeing it DW :)

Tom Jones - as if Robbie Williams hasn't modelled his career on him!

He's gold - cheesy but cool. A great voice.

And Leaper has already pulled me into line about Vanilla Ice!

Mal, Focus were a Dutch band from the 70's who released a number of albums but only aroused local interest with "Live at the Rainbow" which included the track "Hocus Pocus".This was on an earlier release and as I understand it was almost an acoustic track, however on "Rainbow" it grows several new legs.It becomes a show piece for the musicianship of all the members (the lead guitarist was voted best in the world in some poll or other way back when). It is a manic 8 minute song (not including the reprise) unbelievably toe tappable and reinstates yodelling as an artform.

The Toe Jam Jug Band,I have virtually no information on and I don't think they have ever had a hit as such. They are the exception in my list as the criteria I used was that the band must have released multiple albums to lend some credibility to the "Best" tag, where I only know of one song by TTJJB and that is "Plastic Jesus".I put it in just because I like the song so much. The song was in a well known movie from the late 60's.I understand virtual buns are a prized give away on this site so a bun for naming the film, another for naming the character who sang it and a goodly dollop of icing for naming the event that led to him singing it.

Not sure about your reference to Gidget,I will hold off incriminating myself till I get a better understanding of where you are going with it.No stuff it.Yes I did watch Gidget movies. It doesn't make me dirty.Just...........different

Rather than think about which artists are better than which, I shall simply rate artists according to the space occupied by their works in my collection. Ignoring classical music, and stretching the memory:

The The (6 albums {2 on both vinyl and CD}, 1 compilation, numerous 12" and 7" and CD singles, 1 video)
Gary Numan / the Tubeway Army (4 albums, 2 singles)
Devo (3 albums, one EP, one 7" single, one 12" single)
Grace Jones (2 albums, 2 compilations)
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (3 albums, 2 singles)
Hunters & Collectors (3 albums, 1 EP)
Clouds (3 albums, one video, one CD single)
Severed Heads (3 albums, 1 single)
Falling Joys (3 albums, one video)
The Fall (3 albums)
Twisted Sister (3 albums)
UK Squeeze (3 albums)
Kevin Bloody Wilson (3 albums)
Depeche Mode (2 albums, one compilation)
GANGgajang (2 albums (one on both tape and CD), 1 single, 1 DVD)
The Eurogliders (1 album, about 6x7" singles)
Batteries Not Included (2 albums, 1 EP)
Dead Or Alive (2 albums)
Peter Gabriel (2 albums)
Einstuerzende Neubauten (2 albums)
Bjork (2 albums)
The Alarm (2 albums)
Mark Of Cain (2 albums)
Violent Femmes (2 albums)
Beatles (2 albums)
Mike Oldfield (2 albums)
Brian Eno (2 albums)

I think I should be embarrassed at some of the above entries, but I'm not sure which ones...
