carey wrote:i dont think there is a hell of a lot wrong with the comp itself although i'm not sure we should reward 4 sides out 6 with finals but hey the flip slide of that is if we have 8 team comps we'll have the same sides winning outright every week for example say there was 2 8 or 10 side comps what would a NEK or a PARA VISTA do to sides like ENFIELD and C/M??? it would get ugly so the answer to that i am unsure.

Dont agree, i think if you took a backwards step to build towards the future, cut back one grade and put 8 sides in each would find it would be fairly even, you then wouldnt have sides like CM and ENF up against sides like Seaton and Paralowie or Morialta who can compete with the other top sides.

Fitzroy B grade, Wingfield Royals, "Panthers", Brooky Park are all other teams/clubs that are either struggling or have been struggling in recent times yet are all in different grades.

Its all well and good throwing out all these suggestions to improve the comp but the clubs need to be the ones committed to it, and making it happen.

Can blame the exec all you like but they can only do so much, they can listen and change the comp or re-format it etc but its only going to be a bandaid effect in covering up the real problem which is recruitment and retention. It's up to the clubs to put the effort in.

Central Mission & Brooklyn Pk are just about dead as clubs, no sponsors, no B grade, no influx of players, yet neither club appears to advertise for players or go out looking for sponsors. Same with Enfield & Morialta, although a large membership base, new players really only come from mates in the club.

IMO its just typical of a current culture of laziness where people want rewards, want improvement but don't want to apply the work required.

Perhaps clubs could be "zoned" to areas and from there you can identify schools within the area.

i.e Morialta - Morialta H.S, Maryatville school, East Marden P.S, Athelstone P.S, Thornden Park P.S, Rostrevor College, St Peters

To save your "comp" (if thats what you wanna call it) ...

a) jump ship

or

b) sack the top hierarchy & replace with fresh young blood

or

c) Find that Bedgegood character

I think the call that the Exec should head out to more games is a little harsh, considering the majority of them are already on the field anyway!  B.May, I.Kinsman, M.Johns, P.Taylor, M.Wiles, T.Kennison all play, which leaves Robin Turner (probably still plays the odd game here & there??), Andrew Loffler (umpires SACA) and Tige, who is a full-time carer. :?

How about more Clubs get themselves involved in the Exec for starters?!? If more people saw what work happens behind the scenes are involved in the discussions taking place, there most likely wouldn't be these baseless perception floating about that just a handful of Clubs run the whole comp!

And for the record, I can assure you that if said 'umpire in question' threatened me, or encouraged me to imbibe in a barney during a match, he'd be eating custard for 6mths. Sounds like a wise move to avoid confrontation in the first instance and allow players to enjoy playing the game and not get put up on assault charges..?? Umpiring incompetence can be tolerated, but an official inciting violence is just crap!
