Might be a rush by GWS to sign up some mature age players like Gold Coast did to play in the VFL.
All the players except Folau are under 20.

The Giants will likely have a squad of 31 contracted players in 2011, of whom 28 will reside in Sydney.

Currently 19 players on their list, 20 with Lower.

So that would mean Lower could end playing against Norwood next season if he does sign with GWS...

Could be some Centrals players in the same predicament.

Correct, there could be a few examples of this possibly happening with a number of clubs across the whole proposed competition...

apart from this 'competition' it isn't anything new, tony macguiness played for footscray against glenelg (perhaps his first game for footscray) in 1986 & i'd think there would be other players that have done the same when transferring to & from sanfl, vfl, wafl clubs etc etc
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Would the AFL be concerned about how some Melbourne teams are travelling and be trying to strenthen the secondary competitions with a view to having a promotion/relegation system down the track?

One would assume the new Assistant Coach of GWS would have some idea of what players he might be interested in from the SANFL for the competition!

I actually wondered how Peel Thunder would have qualified for the competition. Perhaps the AFL ensured them a spot in honour of producing so many AFL players to forego any senior success.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this already, would it be a good proposal to have say 6 U/18's players required to play in the champions league teams? This would help gain exposure for potential draftees to AFL scouts and also lighten the load on injuries and salary cap issues for the clubs involved.

SA State squad U18s are presently "unavailable" for aprox 6-7 wks of the exisitng season due to state committments (trials, camps and championships). Many also play predominantly for college teams instead of their SANFL teams dring late April to August, when not involved in State.

As these are most likely the ones, as mentioned in the earlier post, who may be wanting to show off their abilities and skills, I don't believe they would be available for this competition when they aren't available for SANFL programmed matches.

Where to begin....

1) ... because it is not an underage competition.

2) ... because the sponsors and broadcasters and supporters and everyone but you want to see serious matches
