Despite all the to'ing and fro'ing of whether they should have a race day dedicated to them, the longer term issue is getting people through the gates on a regular basis. Whether this addresses it or not is yet to be seen.

Not just punters, but people with different moral fibre who are healthily debating the theme of a race meeting.


OL, do you just expect the marketing dept. at SAJC to keep doing what they've been doing?
Sit on their hands and watch less and less people go through the gates?

Times are changing, and the businesses who don't adapt and get left behnid are the ones who will go down the gurgler.

Do you want racing in SA to keep going further into debt?
Give them a pat on the back for at least trying something (even if it doens't work).

For what it's worth, I think they're targetting a good demopgraphic here.
They need to entice new members and racegoers, and gay and lesbians are generally cashed-up (correct me if I'm wrong).

Good on them NO ONE goes to the races except adelaide cup magic millions and oakbank if the memebers dont turn so be it the 100 or so members that dont turn up will be out numbered by all the gays that do. And the members will go back next week and carry on as usual. Full credit to the SAJC.

I used to occasionally go to gay nightclubs in Adelaide as a norMAL heterosexaul person
I even messaged another poster involved in this thread to tell him about the time I went to the golden Gate racetrack in San Francisco with a couple of Gay musicians I met in a nightclub
Thye were fantastic guys, and the 3 of us hung out for a few days

Im open minded
If members object to this theme day its thier perogative
If people who are not regaulrs at the racetrack dont see a prob, its thier opinion
If someone does not wanna take thier kids on a day like this its thier perogative
If the club wants to take a chance on a controversial theme day, its thier decision

The hole idea is to attract crowds to the races
There would be a core of people who would not take thie youngr kids on the day [including me]
So the G + L day is flawed to extent for a family wishing to roll up on the day

Now imagine this, families do roll up and know nothing about the theme day
They could be offended, and begrudingly never ever go back to this racecourse again

My opinion is that people are being too tough on overloaded on this issue.

Rightly or wrongly, there is still quite a lot of stigma attached to the word "gay" in our society.

Glenelg members are almost universally opposed to having the word "gay" in their club song, so I think it is quite understandable that members of another club (SAJC) would feel uncomfortable with having this theme for a whole race meeting. It is not something that many people feel comfortable being associated with, so this view should be respected.

It is easy to take the moral high ground when you are on the outside, but how many people would be comfortable if their club (eg SANFL football club) had this stigma attached to it? Imagine all the extra annoying cheap jokes that would appear on this website and around the grounds...
