Football's different to soccer too, crap soccer teams can compete with good soccer teams merely because of the stupid nature of the game, one team can dominate 95% of the time and lose 1 nil.
It can't happen in footy, to a lesser degree it can but extremely unlikely.

If it's true about 5 NSW/ACT sides, I might speculatively suggest it's a scheduling issue as much as anything. The Canberra comp has just 7 sides (in 2011; 6 in 2010), so its clubs are knocked up with byes. Whereas WA and SA clubs in a 9 team comp, and VFL clubs in a darn big comp, have comparatively fewer.

While of course there's no way a 4th placed ACT side from 2010 (below the halfway mark) should get a guernsey, Canberra boasts 3 or 4 comparatively strong teams, who would acquit themselves respectably against the best state league sides, and on a good day might sneak a win.

Then there's the problem of what to do with the Swans' 2nds, who finished 3rd in the Canberra comp in 2010...

Think it would be 5 from NSW/ACT & Qld. Probably the top 2 from Qld.

No updates yet from the print media, so will just have to wait and see.

Good to see that the AFL is thinking outside the square.. I'd love to watch the best of each state go head to head. My old team, East Coast Eagles, have won flag in the top comp in Sydney the last 2 years running but I think they would be a couple of weight divisions below the top (or even the bottom) sides in the SANFL and VFL. It would be interesting to watch though. Can't have enough footy on the tv.

How does Mr Mediocrity get airtime anywhere?

Yeah that was a bit of a surprise.. I assume that the money needed to get teams to interstate fixtures and the weaker standard would have been the main factors.

The NEAFL is made up of the Queensland and Canberra leagues only. The Sydney league has nothing to do with it.

Exactly my point.

So we now have (in my order of rankings)
- SANFL
- VFL
- WAFL
- NEFL (QLD / ACT & NT Thunder)

- TAS State League
- NT League
- NSW League

Tas used to have a team in VFL, the Devils but had allocated their resoruces to rebuiliding a state comp.

If that came back, NT Thunder stay in NEFL and Sydney league teams made up numbers for two equal conferences in the NEFL then we would have every state / territory with a link with the top 4 leagues.

KG is Mr Stutter, Smyth is Mr Shine, so I'm guessing Chandler is Mr Mediocrity.
I'm only guessing, have nothing to base that on.
Although, it does sound like a Tarantino movie...

When they say NT league I would think they mean the Thunder. This is a composite side from the NT league and while it plays in the QAFL they would be the only players that are match fit at the time of this comp as the NT league is playing now and finishes when the other leagues begin.
We used to be good :-(

Any $ GWS are involved, AFL would see it as a great promotion

Could be why they have just signed Lower.
Might be a rush by GWS to sign up some mature age players like Gold Coast did to play in the VFL.
All the players except Folau are under 20.

The Giants will likely have a squad of 31 contracted players in 2011, of whom 28 will reside in Sydney.

Currently 19 players on their list, 20 with Lower.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.
