He was 55 when he passed away on May 6, 1985, so I would guess he would have been no older than 21 years and eight months when he won. Adelaide Hawk may be better placed to provide a date of birth here.

That would mean Tom Mackenzie can be no younger than 21 years and nine months when he won his first Medal.

Sampson "Shine" Hosking, winning in 1910, sat on the bench for Port in 1936, at the age of 48 (setting the record for oldest listed SANFL player). That would make him 22 years old when he won. Hope all this helps a little.

It doesn't. I just noticed that Cumberland should be 34, not 24.

Thanks CK, the John Wood book does say he was 21, although it would be nice to have an exact date. Funnily enough not even AH knows!
