Adelaide United - the North Adelaide connection

Very interesting situation.

Firstly, it is extremely hypocritical given the tantrum they threw about Port Adelaide just a few weeks ago. They stand to benefit enormously off field by having association with an A-League Soccer club. Especially given this soccer club will be pumping money back to North Adelaide management for administrative costs. But, well done to the club if this works out.

As otr said earlier, what is in it for Adelaide United? Could it alienate some of their supporters (see SJABC and fester above). I guess having a private owner with plenty of cash is positive enough. They will be able to fund their needs and at the same time get an administrative team who have got a track record of getting things done right. Looks like well done to Adelaide United too.

As a supporter/member of an opposing SANFL club, I'm not too concerned by the benefits administratively to North Adelaide, but am concerned about the impact they could have on other SANFL clubs with setting up pokie clubs for Adelaide United.

As I understand SANFL clubs can only set up pokie clubs in their own area, but if North Adelaide set up one for Adelaide United they could set it up anywhere could they not? I bet they won't set up one near one of theirs. Could they set one up that could impact on another SANFL club though?

The Government legislates how many gaming venues can be established in particular re number of machines per head of population etc but it cannot legislate about who owns it. There is nothing stopping a club buying a hotel anywhere regardless of where the club is actually based.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

So from a Port fans perspective its OK to align yourself with another National Sporting Club as long as it isnt a rival to footy? Lets make the rules as we go along eh?

An how is Soccer a rival to AFL? Dont even play similar seasons? (unlike netball)

Port fans have been making it up as they go along for about 12 - 18 months now to my calculations Dutchy.

Despite the last six appearances our record in September Booney is pretty good, in fact better than all other clubs except North, Port, Eagles (ignoring Torren's and Woodville's woeful finals records) and Centrals. October however...

You just named half the opposition. So you're mid table, hardly a stinging rebuke illustrating September strength.

From memory when the Clipsal site was sold to the state Govt, Rob Gerard kept the license for the establishment on Park Terrace (across from the Entertainment Centre). Maybe this will be the "new/first" Adelaide United clubrooms? Or maybe that license is transferrable.
10,000 supporters with nowhere "official" to go after a game, for presentations etc. A lot of bar income potentially missed. Set up a club, and North pay themselves a management fee based on revenue or profit. Could be a handy revenue stream for North and Adelaide United.
The area is supposed to be developed into an entertainment preccint (one day), tram there, Hindmarsh Stadium, Entertainment Centre, The Gov, new Adelaide Oval development, Gerard may be thinking ahead? Maybe?

From what I have been told, old Moneybags doesn't put as much money into North as many people think. Sure, I believe he went guarantor for a couple of loans, and his company has been club sponsor for many, many years but I have been told North have a couple of other very, very wealthy benefactors who keep a much lower profile.
