Overated acts

Postby Mr66 » Sun Nov 07, 2010 8:28 pm

The Doors, George Michael and Robbie Williams spring to my mind
Anyone disagree or have more to add?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Coldplay. End of thread.

A band who has sold a simply incredible amount of units, by releasing the same song, in slightly different keys and slightly different speeds, many times over, and yet, always managing to make the new version sound even more inane than the one before it.

I cannot stand them.

Didn't take for the the Coldplay bashing to start...
Reckon people should listen to their first album before dismissing them completely.
Good "sunday morning" album.

The Doors didn't exactly have prodigious musical output, but their (or Jim Morrison's) approach was probably quite influential.

Most overrated for me is Bon Jovi.

x2 . Never understood how/why they are/were (hopefully) as popular as they obviously are.

Also cant believe they took off and not Powder Monkeys after their efforts on the Triple J 'Eleven' disc years ago...

I thought that for many years too - until I saw him live at Footy Park (didn't pay, I worked at the show)

I would rate him has one of the best showmen I've ever seen - and I'm by no means a fan...

Queen.
I know people who talk about these guys like they single handedly revolutionised music but in reality their strike rate was quite poor.
I would also nominate Kiss, but Im not sure people "rate" them.

Add me to the Powderfinger and Coldplay list.

Off topic but I thought of you on the way home yesterday Leaping Lindner as the radio was on Triple M and they played Wild Child and then said "and that was one hit wonder Iggy Pop"!

Yes indeed CP, yes indeed.

I agree with FC on Robbie Williams too, if it were not for his substance abuse over the years I am certain he would be regarded as one of the best live performers of our era.

Not sure why Powderfinger cops a bum steer* in this. They are only 'rated' in Australia and if you only see them for what they are, a pub rock band playing to large crowds then thats what you get. If you consider them a world wide sensation, that they are not.
