Adelaide United - the North Adelaide connection

All discussions to do with the SANFL

One of the main arguments used in their (now deleted) 1000 word fabrication was that sharing Administration gave the Magpies an unfair advantage over other SANFL clubs. All the while they were forging an Administrative partnership with a RIVAL sporting code on a National Stage.

I Googled the word Hypocrisy and it took me straight to Menzies Crescent.

Surely the concern is/was that more than just office space gets shared - e.g. football department intellectual property, training/rehab equipment...the sort of benefits that flow from an alignment with a club at the elite level of the same code.

True, the SANFL, as the governing body and licence holder of the AFL clubs in Adelaide cannot be seen to be favouring one of its constitutent clubs over the others.
That's why North would not seek a merger with the Adelaide Football club which would clearly be off limits. They are free however, to pursue partnerships of some description with entities not owned by the SANFL. Some already do in a limited form, as with netball clubs or Norwood seeking RSL help in their social club plans.
If some Port people think this is proof of North hypocrisy then they really are having a lend.

Hang on, I never said it was the ONLY reason for NA opposing the reunification, but A reason. And hypocrisy still stands. As a 1/9th shareholder in the AFL Licenses, they are forging an Administrative Alliance (complete with benefits not available to other SANFL clubs) with a national rival code.

So from a Port fans perspective its OK to align yourself with another National Sporting Club as long as it isnt a rival to footy? Lets make the rules as we go along eh?

An how is Soccer a rival to AFL? Dont even play similar seasons? (unlike netball)

Port sponsored the Thunderbirds. They had no allegiance or joint memberships/sponsorships/administration or anything else. It was a standard sponsorship.

Completely different to what is being talked about with NAFC/AU

I only intimated that netball was not a rival to AFL. For starters, the majority of participants are not of the same sex. How many young lads are going to take up netball over football? How many viewers are going to switch to the netball from the football? How many advertisers are going to throw their money at netball i.l.o. football?

I couldn't care if North merged with AU on and off the field, it'd probably screw them both up.

Which in view of Port's financial position, was grossly irresponsible. Get your own house in order before sponsoring other organisations.
