I'm pretty certain they did do covers early on in their career, they were a blues band initially (like the Stones and many other British groups influenced by American music). I'm trying to find at least one.
So, they did samples and might also have done a cover or two ;)

True, very, very early on (possibly before the 1st album lineup had been settled) they played covers on stage.
No covers in albums or concerts post the 1st album as far as I'm aware though.
