The fact Glenelg can sack him before last season, and still now command a transfer fee despite refusing to bring him back into the fold is a disgrace and an embarrassment to the whole competition. Those rules need to change, and I think the SANFL needs to step in on this one and not let Glenelg take the money.

As for North picking up Handby, why do we need another old, slow and unfit HACK who Ive never been impressed with. I thought we were supposedly heading in a new positive direction. Wake up North

It was a training camp. No idea how thats worse than T Cranston missing a game to go to a mates wedding in Melbourne. Ben Moore sitting out a couple to get into the fireies back a few years ago or Lucas Block missing 2 to go to WA for work/family commitments in 09. I could list more.....

The bloke bled for the club through the dark days. When his mates left... he stayed. Sure there was some angst about him shopping himself round etc but when he signed on the dotted line he gave 100% for the club week in week out.

His off field rapport with supporters and kids was fantastic.

I personally saw him get himself up for games when 90% of blokes would have stayed on the physio table and skipped a week with some of the injuries he played with.

Im disgusted by again the GFC's treatment of a club great.

Rubbish. They paid a transfer fee for him, they're entitled to recoup some or all of that if he transfers to another club. Glenelg are saying he's not required there for certain reasons, they're not however saying he is worthless.

Just not worth having in their team. Either let him come back or let him go for free.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

So did they sack him last year, or didnt they?

If so, he shouldnt need to "transfer" anywhere.

Excellent, Allan can run one boundary while Backwell runs the other.

Ever sold anything you didn't want?

I have, but I didnt have to pay its wages while I had it. ;)

Do football clubs 'own' their employees?

I've never changed employers where a transfer fee was involved.

Re Allan - Hard to be the biggest possession getter in the SANFL in each of his 4 years in the league along with 2 MM (should have had 3) if your an outside player? Dumb comment.

Backwell however I agree with that comment as does Roy Laird! He will have to convince me otherwise if he comes to prospect.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Analogy time.

I went to the dump last week & chucked out some old stuff I didn't want. As I was about to leave, I saw a bloke walk up to the pile of junk that I had discarded, take something from it & put it in his car. I went over to him and said "hang on mate, that's mine! I want $20 for that." He promptly put on his (red & white) hat, told me to get stuffed, jumped into his car & headed off up the Main North Road.

The problem with that analogy is that Glenelg haven't 'dumped' Backwell, they've kept him on their list. What they've done is not use him. A better analogy is putting a car that you don't want/use in a garage for 12 months. The fact that you haven't used it for 12 months doesn't make it any less valuable in the market place. It may actually increase its value.
Graham's analogy doesn't hold either for the obvious reason that transfer fees aren't payable in the wider employment market.
