I dont watch the show, but I did hear a while ago one of the cast members was leaving due to a personality clash with one of the other actors.

I see enough "real life" in my real life.

How do people sit through that...?

How do people become emotionally attached to actors playing their 65th role you have seen them in?

I just dont get it.

Mrs.Boon was blubbering away like nobodys business last night.

Not sure - but you can probably sit through a 5 day cricket test match and watch every single ball come down - whereas I couldn't, no way...lol.

I think you become emotionally attached because the characters are different - like I don't even see Rebbecca Gibney as anyone else these days than Mrs Rafter - same with the other older actors - I see them as totally different.

Same thing goes for 'hollywood' movies - we see the same actors film in, film out - but they are different characters - and we all sit through it..lol. O:)

I didn't go as far as 'blubbering' last night - but - I did think to myself what if 'A Son' had to go through something like that - too sad.

The thing with the whole departure of Mel from Rafters was how they managed to keep it pretty well under wraps, there were a some websites with some supposed leaks which is always likely to happen i guess but the ones I looked at really couldnt say 100% who was going to be killed off, unlike when Maggie left Blue Heelers which IIRC was pretty common knowledge.

It's interesting reading the comments of people on this thread and on other webistes about how other people have reacted to the storyline...the whole it's not a real accident, they aren't real people thing....no it wasn't and no they aren't, but those kinds of tragic accidents caused by inattention or whatever happen everyday in real life and hopefully a TV show is as close as many people will ever get to something like that. Having seen recently first hand how a road accident fatality can affect the life of the family members and friends of the person or persons involved I think the producers of the show have done a great job of telling a story in this case and by the looks of it that will continue next week.

Was also interesting how Ch7 promoted the episode across their news programs...8 times it was mentioned post the episode being aired according to this weeks media watch after a compliant from someone who thought the news related to Pat Rafter's family.
Trust the process.

Very well said Columbo - that's what I have been telling people also - yes it's not real - in this instance - but yes these things do happen and it is extremely possible in the exact same circumstance as were portrayed.

I must admit it certainly got the attention of 15 year old A son re the 2 seconds lack of concentration thing - that even though they get told over and over and police visit the schools and say 'blah, blah, blah' re accidents, I don't really think they get it.

I mean how many accidents are caused by someone (usually young) who look down for 2 seconds to change the CD in the car stereo etc, etc.... so I think to see a (albeit fake) re-inactment of what can happen was a good lesson for some. No matter how stupid some people think it is/was...lol.

Every time I see that show the blonde daughter is getting a drink in the kitchen.

I'm sort of with you on this one Boonbag, I don't need to find ways to make myself sad, the real world provides enough ups and downs.
