If this is the case, i find it a very ballsy decision. Brighton are a very proud club and as well as the obvious aim of winning a flag which they are very close to, they would want to make sure they stay at the top in years to come. The appointment of $am brings risks in this area, but they are certainly craving that flag. If cox was available, did they not go there as he has tried before? Anyway, expect brighton to be strong in 2011, after that, russian roulette.

I would be absolutely flabergasted if $am has been appointed coach at Brighton next year. I'll wait to hear it from DTH before i believe it.

If Ian Cox was available, surely they would have gone down that path.

One of the best coaches to coach in the SFL in recent years.

Does anyone actually know if Coxy was available, or was it simply a rumour? DTH?

Mahoney may be a risk but he will deliver them exactly what they need - power forwards. Braidwood parked in the goalsquare with Rigney another dangerous forward option.

Coxy did not apply. The Brighton faithful can reveal what took place if they wish.

Great work by Mahony to land a very good coaching gig. Not sure many of those named on here will follow him to the Bombers, Bakes a good chance, Rigney to the Mudlarks or Braidwood & Rigs off to a Hills Country Div club....

Including leading the Bombers to their very authoritative Premiership in '02
I think the report Coxy didn't actually apply must be correct, because you'd think his application would have killed the chances of all other applicants

Well done to Ex-Jervois player and coach Sam Mahoney getting the Brighton job.His ability to draw players to a club is second to none and I can see him picking up some of his old teammates from both Jervois and Kingston. He would only have to pick up Rigney,Baker,Braidwood and Ewer and the Bombers would be a force.(They are close to it now).....I cant wait to see him in his denim shorts and shaved legs.

Good luck to the defenders of the SFL if Trev pulls on a Brighton guernsey next year. Mind you with what looks to be the best year in decades on the land expect some big offers to come at a lot of city players from many country leagues around Jan/Feb once they sell their produce!!

I can confirm earlier comments that Sam Mahony has been appointed A grade coach of the Brighton Bombers for 2011.

Sounds as though alot on here know more about Sam than I do. My knowledge of Sam extends to references of "$am Money" whenever he and Jervois from the 2004-2009 era get mentioned. I've never quite worked out what the money references have truly meant so maybe some of you can enlighten.

I'm told that Sam's appointment was purely based on his own credentials and nothing to do with the so called plethora of players who may be interested in playing now that Sam is coach. The Bombers have only lost 6 out of our last 41 games in A grade and only 3 games in the same period in the B grade with a senior list that is still not that old. So Sam already has plenty to work with and we are confident he will have us challenging for the flag for a few years to come.

4 flags at Jervois as a marquee player and Asst. Coach including 2 come from behind GF wins means he knows how to win big games.

As assistant...what about the year he coached after that who went out in straight sets? Ewer, Rigney, Beeching, Jagodnik, Mahoney, Bayliss, Schmidt...not a bad team in any league.

Well he definitely has a pretty damn good team already at Brighton and if he adds the players rumoured they would surely be favourites!
