St Brendans 6-10 over Mitcham
Western Ireland 11-15 over Ports - WI looked to be back in form last weekend
Na Fianna 6-10 over IA - Even with 'fake' Ken Fay out for the Derby day, I think our boys should account for the improved IA. I also hear that Matt Doecke sleeps with a night light on, not because he is afraid of the dark. The dark is afraid of Matt Doecke
Finally in the match of the round
Onka's 1-5 over Flinders
Can we call in Herb Dean to officiate this one??? Hopefully Mrs MBK will allow me to get down to gaelic park to see this one. Snoop Dawg to be the last man standing!!!

Matt Doecke doesn’t wear a watch. HE decides what time it is.

Just looking at the tips for Round 3 and it once again appears to be a fairly straight forward round according to our experts. Opinion is divided on only one game FON V ONK. Im sure there will be rounds where all 4 games are harder to pick than a broken nose but none the less im going to make a very small adjustment to the scoring system...If you can pick all 4 teams with margin (which no-one has got close too) you will now recieve 2 bonus points. Everything else is the same including 2 points for tipping a Draw.
I am aware that posts can be edited but anyone caught pulling a dodgy will have to deal directly with DOECKE, MATTHEW DOECKE

The Taints are excited about the return of Craig "Peter Hore the Serial Pest" Bevan into their lineup tonight, Bevo to play his first game since the Hannigan Cup Final at the start of the year (probably cant include his 10 minute bursts from the bench in NZ). Bevo has finally recovered from a hamstring strain, that IIRC he must have done nearly 3 months ago?!

CTs Tips:

Taints by 6-10
Mountaingoats by 11-15
The Brave (this is what Na Fianna means i was told in an Irish pub??) by 6-10
Shonkas by 1-5 (the Onkas team song should be a bastardised cover of that Dizzy Rascal track "Bonkers" ie "some people think im Onkas etc etc)

Whilst we are taking this nostalgic trip through the annals of Irish history I believe St Brendans Gaelic Football Club is named after an Irish Saint (makes sense). Made Famous for his seven year voyage to the "Isle of the blessed" with his 60 pilgrims (also known as the St brendans faithful) who set out looking for the garden of Eden. This voyage resulted in the finding of the Isle of Brendan. A phantom island as it turns out. There are also claims (possibly made by Brendan himself) that he was in fact the first European to set foot on American soil. Interesting stuff.

Hopefully some of these 60 odd pilgrims can front up for tonights game in tough conditions..!!

When picturing St Brendan in my head, i imagine he would be a dead ringer for Seanny Dunne...

Looks like the weather Gods are turning it on again for the friday night specialists...

St Brendans to defeat Mitcham. The Saints to be strengthened with the return of the magician. The magician to also get through the game by following Coach Milsons instructions and just handball. Despite the continued good form of the spiritual leader Tommy and vintage Ossy the Saints to have too much scoring potential in the conditions and get up by 6 to 10 points.

Western Ireland to defeat Ports. The new team again gets conditions to be slightyly unsuitable while adapting to the round ball. The goals found some cohesion and with accurate kicking managed to put aside the Mitcham boys last week. Expect the Goats to continue to make the most of the opportunities and pressure the new boys into mistakes at the wrong end of the ground. The Ports boys are stringing some good passages together and when conditions allow will run some sides of the park. Issue though will be putting the ball over the bar as we have seen with all new converts to the game. WI by 6 to 10 points.

NaFianna to defeat Irish. The rumor of Kenny Fay won't eventuate and he will quite merrily rock up and pop over his customary 10 points against the Irish to lead the side to victory. The brave ones and Milko are playing good gaelic under Micky Ls tutelage and are 2 from 2 with the newbies settling into the side well. Expect some fireworks and razzle dazzle with the key forwards of Timmy and Jolly but come to watch the class and skill of Matty Hill lead the NaFianna boys to 3 and zip. The Irish boys still to play a full game with inexperience seeing them being totally outclassed for 15 minutes in the first couple weeks and even with some good work by the Huss and a guy they call the Freak I can't see them troubling the brave ones as they are called. NaFianna by 6 to 10 points with Delvins to get on the scoreboard.

Onkas to defeat Flinders. A big game this one. Under the guidance of the "big M" the Onkas boys have been playing some irresistable gaelic. The first half against the Saints was first class and at half time the scoreboard was relatively one sided. "Oh Danny Boy" is a great addition to the group and allows JZ to roam the midfield with Wado while that man "snoop dawg" just mops up everything down back. On the other side we have the Flinders boys who's first half into the breeze was pretty impressive. Good ball movement and a multitude of options in attack with dead eye finishing set the game up for them. The Flinders boys looked relatively physical and if this can be replicated all over the ground expect a tough encounter. Only thing was looked like some of the boys run out of legs in the second half and based on this its Onkas by 1-6 points.

ST BRENDANS 1.16 -19 def MITCHAM 1.1 -4
BEST PLAYERS
ST.B ; Ben "Over" Eaton, J+J Peg (or maybe one of them was just everywhere), Bevo and Millsy
MITCHAM ; Soxy, Mase, TommyG + Kaiser Solze...The Usual Suspects

WESTERN IRELAND 2.15 -21 def PORT 1.3 -6
BEST PLAYERS
GOATS ; Willow, MartyMac-2 goals, D,J+M Flo, Kiwi, Bahr + Gags
PORT ; Toasty, Willbur Lynch, Nickoff + Levi
Another good game where the skill level was suprisingly high for a game played in poor conditions. 2 weeks in a row i have reffed the Goats and they have been in outstanding form taking their points from dangerous areas and moving the ball with zip and precision. The thing that stands out the most though is their improved discipline. Their focus seems to be only on the ball and the team goals and they seemed to have realised despite how crappy (Gags ;) ) a decision might be, the onus is on regaining possesion and getting the ball back in their own hands. Port despite being 0-3 have made a solid start to their Gaelic Football tenure and with added experience and improved playing conditions they will make their way up the ladder. They are strong ,fit and seem to have good team comradaree. They also have a full squad and good management and leadership. Any team that takes them lightly will get knocked off.

IRISH 1-6 NA FIANNA 0-6

A bizarre, ugly game not without its controversy..certainly some gold standard sledging

A win for the Irish helps the comp and ads fuel to the re-match....The club has probably introduced more new players to the game than any club over the past 6 years and maybe they have now actually discovered a couple who can play

Onkas defeated Flinders 4.5 to 0.5, Onkas forward Adrian Maccolino rocketed in 3 thunderbolts all from about 20 metres out!

Flinders had all the play early on, but possibly didnt make the most of their chances, very unlucky when a goal bound effort rebounded out off the cross bar.

Bit of an upset in the Na Fianna vs Irish game! I assume Matt Doecke was up to his old tricks?

Was possibly one of the quickest and most skillful games I have played in, enjoyed it immensley, well done to Onkas, they played really well. Cant wait till the next time we play you, should be a ripper. I think even the Onkas boys would agree that the scoreline probably wasnt a true reflection of the eveness of the contest. Now for another tough match up with western ireland, geez!

I believe Onkaparinga was named after an area of land in Adelaide's Southern suburbs would you believe it! We even have a council named after us!
