I really love the Clash. Never mind that they can't sing and they know about two chords, I just can't stop singing along to 'Lost in the Supermarket'. I know...how embarrassing is that??

The Clash would have been vastly improved if Mick Jones had used a violin bow and done 4 hour guitar solos and Joe had learnt to scream like a 16 year old girl ;)

They have no soul if they're abusing you for that.

How about the Nolan Sisters? I have their album. Went to the record fair that used to happen on a regular basis at the Woodville Town Hall and there was a stand there with a couple of metal heads only selling metal and punk albums, but f*** me dead, that was in amongst it. So I took it. The dude gave me the freakiest look.

Oh come on! You would've done each and everyone of those girls.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

For some reason, whenever I mention that I have two Peter Allen songs on my MP3, it gets a sideways glance. "Tenterfield Saddler" is one of those songs that always makes me sad, yet uplifted it that makes any sense.

The other always gets me smiling no matter what, though. "I Go To Rio"

x2! :D I love Phil, always have a bit of a singalong when he comes on the radio. It can get a bit out of hand. My five year old now tells us sternly that 'No one is allowed to be Philip in the car.'

My mp3 list also includes the Scorpions, Tears for Fears, Styx and Whitesnake. ;)

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

A guy I used to work with was at face value your standard JJJ type. Very alternative musical tastes, hated the top 50, played in a band, liked artists outside the mainstream, went to a lot of gigs, etc. Really nice guy BTW.

He made me laugh one day when he admitted that at home he would hide away upstairs and listed to Sophie Ellis Bextor (remember murder on the dancefloor?). He didn't even tell his fiancee and he swore me to secrecy  He said his image with his mates would forever be ruined if they found out. I bet he'd be surprised what his muso mates were secretly listening too if they fessed up truthfully.

Although I don't see all of these as embarrasing I'll go with the thread topic and admit to Hall & Oates, Lady Gaga, Phil Collins/Genesis, Prince, Abba & Def Leppard. I suppose Van Halen (pre 1990) are embarassing now? Post 1990 yes they are.

Prince, early Prince anyway, is not embarrassing. The guy had serious talent. However, if you'd said Cameo....

My first ever album purchase was Purple Rain

I remember expecting the vinyl to be purple because I had heard it would be. It wasn't.
