By international cricket standards, losing to England places us in the Third World category :)

Graeme Swann, the England offspinner, has jumped 15 places to a career-best third spot in the ICC one-day bowling rankings after his successful series against Pakistan in which he bagged 11 wickets. The other big gainer in the rankings was Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul, who climbed 18 places to the 23rd spot after topping the series bowling charts with 12 wickets in the five ODIs.

There was also a further sign of Eoin Morgan's increasing importance to England's limited-overs sides as his match-winning 107 in the deciding ODI helped him become the highest-ranked England batsman at 14th. His captain, Andrew Strauss, who was Man of the Series after making a hundred and two half-centuries against Pakistan is one spot behind him, having gained 10 places.

Bangladesh have risen to eighth spot in the latest ICC one-day rankings, moving ahead of West Indies, who have sunk to their lowest position. Bangladesh's elevation comes on the back of two series wins - against New Zealand in October and Zimbabwe in December - and West Indies' 2-0 loss to Sri Lanka in the recent one-day series.

West Indies have had a terrible run in one-dayers since August 2008, the period the rankings cover - not winning a series against a Test nation in that time, and they haven't beaten a Test team in an ODI since June 2009. Their performance was also hampered by the strike action by their entire first-choice team for nearly six months starting July 2009

Australia 131
India 119
Sri Lanka 119
South Africa 118
England 109
Pakistan 100
New Zealand 91
Bangladesh 66
West Indies 66
Ireland 39
Zimbabwe 37
Netherlands 17
Kenya 0

England, the reigning World Twenty20 champions, have topped the ICC's inaugural rankings for the shortest format of the game. England batsman Eoin Morgan tops the batting ratings, Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis is the top bowler and Australia's Shane Watson the No. 1 allrounder.

England have 127 points and are ahead of Sri Lanka, who have 126 in the rankings, announced on Monday. If England win their T20 against India at Eden Gardens on October 29, they will have a four-point lead over Sri Lanka. If they lose, though, they will slip below Sri Lanka and India.

Australia are 6th

Morne Morkel, the South Africa fast bowler, has replaced Graeme Swann as the No. 1 ranked bowler in one-day internationals, giving South Africa the top spot in five categories across Tests and 50-over cricket. Morkel's elevation puts him alongside team-mate Hashim Amla who occupies the top batting position in ODIs. Jacques Kallis is currently the No.1 Test batsman and allrounder while Dale Steyn is the top Test bowler.
Two India spin bowlers, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, played key roles in the England series and their performances are recognised by substantial improvements in their standings. Ashwin has entered the top 20 while Jadeja has gained 12 places to be two points away from a new career-best mark.

Another significant mover is Brendan Taylor, the Zimbabwe captain, whose impressive series against New Zealand where he scored 310 runs including two centuries has boosted him 18 places to No. 17.

Shakib Al Hasan, the former Bangladesh captain, has become the No. 1 Test allrounder in the latest ICC rankings following his outstanding performance against Pakistan in Mirpur. Shakib's rise ended Jacques Kallis' lengthy hold on the position. Kallis, who made 31 and went wicketless in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Centurion, was the No. 1 allrounder for 3696 days and will have the chance to reclaim the top position during the final two matches of that series in Durban and Cape Town.

Daniel Vettori, Shane Watson and Stuart Broad complete the top allrounders list in Test cricket.
