Sometimes I think whether it is even worth pursuing former AFL players who've played at that level for a long time. When was the last time a recently delisted/retired regular Crows/Power player played more than one season of SANFL before retiring? Maybe Bode or Torney?

Torney played two yes. 2008/09. Top 3 in the B+F last year I reckon.

When Toby Thurstans retired from AFL and signed to play on at sturt, he was quite happy to play for another 2-3 years.
That was still the case mid season.
he said that the SANFL was just as demanding as AFL training wise, but the recovery and rehabilitation from injury was harder as the medical treatment just wasn't available as it was at an AFL club.
This could very well be a reason why many don't last longer than a season.
The minds willing but.....................

Excellent post Smithy and maybe a good reason why you don't recruit ex AFL players unless they are originally from your club .....like Gallagher, Lower, Campbell who are dedicated to the jumper.
Sorry to show my bias but all clubs can insert their own players of a similar ilk !

Goes back to why I feel that training loads should be reduced.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Thrilled to hear you attracted someone who was so happy to finish third - with an atttitude like that he make even take you all the way to second ... so long as he does not go water-skiing again this summer.

Mate, you need to get over that - it was a year ago, both Clubs seem to have come out of it pretty well at the moment.

It's better to see someone who wants to finish 3rd than go along for the ride and finish last.
We don't hear about all the failures of the panthers recruiting because they were nobodies in the first place and nobody cares that they left.
