the fact is football is a "360 degree" game...if you are within 5 metres of the ball you need to expect contact from ANY direction. The fact Phillips was completely oblivious to oncoming traffic says more about him than anything else.

RWHABB, so he is supposed to 'see' what is coming behind him also?

he picked him off plain and simple, he didnt mean to get him high that was just unlucky but he saw an easy target and took him out.

Guys,

Whilst Footy is an emotional game and none moreso than a Grand Final, please attempt to keep it as civilised as possible on here .. "Name calling" and the like isn't what we want this site to be about, by all means discuss the game and stick up for your team, but please leave the personal attacks at the door.

Cheers,

Yes, it was Dutschke's leg colliding with O'Sullivan's that caused the break. I remember Scott saying he heard the crack and couldn't look down at Sully's leg because he felt ill...

Back to the game at hand, what did people think of Phillips' game before he came off injured?

from what i have seen of phillips, prob 4-6 games this season is he finishes games better than he starts them. I thought he was a major factor in the legs prelim final win.

He was well held by Thomas (I think). Bassett singled him out in his quarter time address, to lift. Obviously, he's a bit of an X-factor (not the Kyle Sandilands type) for them. Don't know what his stats were. Jai from local Safooty described him as having a "Leon Davis" game.

Agree, but I was more reffering to his game ion the GF up until the 'incident'.

Watching the replay, I found it interesting listening to Bassett tell Phillips he was too fumbly at 1/4 time and prior to going off fumbled another 2 or 3 times, which Brenton 'Sticks' Phillips commented on also.

Flip was well down on touch and had a poor game by his standards ... Im confident that he would have turned it around as %70 of the time he plays his best footy in the 2nd half, particularly when tired legs are involved - He also had the chance to be free of PT (star) for a while which could have helped.

At the end of the day it's all could have/would have and should haves and they mean bugger all, the result won't change and it accurately reflects the contest - The scoreboard never lies.

Also, he went off at the 18:30 mark in the third quarter. I don't believe he'd had a touch in the third quarter. I noticed Thommo was still on him, at least for part of it and had provided a couple of clearances. Also, by this stage Callinan had kicked three goals. Philips had one kick, one handball, one goal four tackles for one half and 18:30 minutes of football.

If Norwood had have got up on Sunday, do you think McGuinnes would have got the BOG?? I thought he was awesome with what he did with the ball and his spoiling efforts etc. Did they have a list of the votes given out on the day????
