Interesting to see if Norwood make the same mistake as some of the other recent challengers and play injured players.

This match will be full on and injured players have been exposed in previous years .....

All comes down to whats available at a clubs disposal I guess .. Im a big believer in not playing injured players also, but few are %100 this time of year anyway

Agree with both parts of your statement. It's a fine line that coaches tread, along with all the tough calls they make this time of year, who'd be a coach? Supporting is so much easier!

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but isn't it a great story that Sutherland has the opportunity to play in a GF for Berri and another for Centrals. I reckon it's the feel good story of the year. How often has that happened, where a country player has played in a GF for their country club and then played in an SANFL GF????? I am a bit biased though. He did kick arse for the Mighty Demons in the GF and was the main reason we won the GF. Good luck Pump. Hope u go all the way buddy.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep

No

50 years ago to the day Al Faggotter played in the 1960 North Adelaide win, a week after he had played in I think, Myponga's win in the Southern League. He certainly played in a country premiership and SANFL premiership in the same year.

There were lots of people at the semi final who were screaming for AFL style holding the ball and deliberate OOB frees. They had to have been watching AFL only didn't they?

Perhaps they were surprised to see only three on the bench and umpires wearing white too ...

Well there is a clear rule in both competitions that if the ball is put out out bounds deliberately a free should be paid to the opposition. Not sure I'd be any different when I saw what Sibenaler did....

True but the interpretations are worlds apart, same applies for the holding the ball rule, cant compare the AFL rules to the SANFL rules almost two totally different ball game.

I can see where Jim is coming from, we sat on the outer wing and there was definatly alot of supporters (both clubs) who obviously were watching their first SANFL game of the year, the same will aply this week with both sides supporters

So the umpire says 'well you put it out deliberately but because it's SANFL, I'll interpret it that you didn't'

I'm not defending the bandwagonners that turn up this time of year, but they and everyone else has a right to scream when incorrect decisions are made.

Did you think it was deliberate?

I have not seen one more deliberate in either competitions this year, Umpire simply did not do his job correctly....

There's a story like this in every Grand Final isn't there, about the desperately unlucky bloke who misses out. I really feel for Tony Dey.

Too bad if you are a goal umpire and your name's not Matt! :D
At least if a goal umpire makes an error, there won't be any doubt about his name ;)

Ironically, on a number of occasions during the year Bassett didn't even name a squad. He just named the team. That's pretty transparent and I for one was very surprised at that approach.

But if you dont know your opposition before the Grand Final is played, it's probably too late anyway.

I always have my birthday as a bit of a distraction (today) but I do start to feel the nerves come the Parade on Saturday, training down at Max Basheer Reserve then come Sunday morning, there are no nails left on the fingers mate ;)

How are you with nerves?

Personally i dont get too nervous until i get in the premiers bar and it has been taken over by dogs fans singing and chanting.

The early 2000's i use to get real nervous all week leading up and i would worry about every decision from both clubs made at the selection table but these days i dont even really look at the teams before GF Day now.

During the game i get real nervous as you would have seen Constance, i had to go to the bar because i couldnt watch.

Though to be honest im actually not to fussed about the winning or losing of the GF these day, so many factors come into play such as injuries during the game (eg, Hicks 2002), the wind etc etc, Im just extremly happy to make it knowing im going to have a briliant day and night to follow, plus the lead up is exciting, hopefully the players dont have the same attitude as me.

Its great the GF run has continued who would of thought 11 in a row. SANFL GF day for me is the greatest day of the year.
