These things are always subjective but I agree with the sentiments re the lack of Centrals players including Hayes.

I don't mind so long as the players get a premiership medallion each on Sunday :D

Plus they have the coach of the year so we can't even match them with strategy. ;)
Having said that, congratulations to Fred on his coach of the year status. He has indeed done a fine job.

Having said that, there is truly only one TEAM of the year: the one that takes home the Thomas Seymour Hill Cup next Sunday. Hoping it will be us for the ninth time in eleven years.
Cheers

Bassett Coach of the year.

This is how grades work in Australia.

A 90% and above (Excellence)
B 80-89% (Very Good)
C 70-79% (Good)
D 60-69% (Average)
E 50% - 59% (Unsatisfactory)
F 49% and under (Failure)

Bassett got 60% 12 wins 8 losses. Which equates to a D and was 1% away from an E.

COACH OF THE YEAR OBVIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fred has one incomplete major assignment which is due for submission next Sunday. This assessment task is worth 75% of the year's grade. Successful completion of this task will lift his grades markedly. Failure to achieve the task will probably see him need to state that his homework has been eaten by Dogs.

Nice try RC - your table means Roy was only "good" and Godden and Norman were both unsatisfactory.
I'd like to know who really uses that grade table though - seems unusual that 50-59% would be described as unsatisfactory when it's enough to pass a university degree with. ;)

As someone wrote on the Adelaide Now website. Bass had 5 players of the year to work with, Roy only two. Just being pedantic, not really bothered, and with Hayes not in there the team lacks cred.

I reckon at least 6 dogs should be in that side. Why the bays have 6 still has me buggered.
They may not be taking into account finals, but they should at least take into account games outside glenelg oval.

Now worries Squeal. Can you also confirm that according to my table it shows yet again Roy Laird this year had a superior record than the alleged Coach of the year.

Bassett got norwood from 7 and 13. To 12-8.

WOW!!!!!!!!

BTW Did Mark harvey win AFL coach of the year ???

RC - I said earlier on in this thread that arguments could be made for a number of coaches to be the coach of the year. I'm not convinced it should be Bassett, but neither am I convinced it should be Laird. The reason is that the selection is a judgement call, not a call based on black and white results (so it seems!).

Roy deserves a truck load of respect for 6 league flags and reserves success to go with it. Bass is a new kid on the block who by his own admission has said that the 0-4 start to the year was due in part to him learning to be a coach. No doubt he is still learning - and no doubt Roy is too!

Out of interest, if Roy was to retire after Sunday, who would his successor be - is there a clear internal heir apparent, or would they look outside the club?

Who's Mark Harvey anyway - he's not a SANFL coach as far as I am aware. ;)

Maybe Kris Grant? ;)

Might be able to talk Alan Stewart or Peter Jonas back into it perhaps? ;)

In all seriousness though, it is a good question, maybe reserves coach Jeff Brown?

Thank God it is not a call based on black and white results. Their results were disappointing this year! A grading of a U based on the Grading Chart. ;)

New kid or not. Youd want to do better than 60% win/loss ratio before being considered the coach of the year.

Sorry it just not possible for Roy to imporve on his win/loss ratio every year as his record is that remarkable. His record should be something to be respected not ignored IMHO.

I half agree with Fred's selection as coach of the year. To get Norwood to where they are this year, remembering that they were not allowed to recruit, is quite an achievement.
Roy is undoubtedly Coach of the Decade or Coach of the Millennium. ;)

What's funny is that the same things are said in other team of the year threads, and a few by the same people!

2006: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4355
2007: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11130
2008: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18432
2009: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24937

Wedgie, Sturt had 7 players in the team of the year in 1975, but finished fourth.
