Reckon we definitely need Broadbent given the Treeby and Lewis injuries.
We have our forward line working pretty well. Don't need another tall down there.
Could Salter be played as No 2 ruckman if Redden doesn't come up? Reasonably mobile, has spent some time in the middle for us as a follower before.

Dear Mr.Aerie,

I note that your heartfelt letter failed to acknowledge a couple of points. Perhaps you would like to submit it for consideration in this weeks version of Rucci's Roast?

Firstly - Can you confirm that both players are indeed fit for selection? If they are, what you term 'fit', how would you know? They have not played nor trained for 4 weeks.

Secondly - Would Coach Godden be prepared to select players whom have not played or trained for 4 weeks for a cut throat final? Another cut throat final that could see you on Mad Monday celebrations.

With your reserves team all being available for selection, now that they have nothing to do this weekend, I would find it a desperate and perculiar move to select player/s that have not been on the training track or field for at least one month.

Yes, yes indeed. The way you blokes have dominated the SANFL for such a sustained period of time really should be a lesson to all clubs out there.

Not sure how excited I would be getting over yesterdays win, after all, it is September and it was only Glenelg. 8)

The Eagles this season have catered for eleven AFL players from the Crows and Power coming back from injuries or poor form and then being promoted. The disruption to the Eagles has been significant, only Luke Thompson a rookie listed player has been a constant inclusion. Surely it is time for the AFL clubs to be sympathetic towards the Eagles for the repatriation of their players during the season. If fit, Salter and Broadbent should be given the green light to play.

Disagree.

They are Power/Crow players and therefore Power/Crows decide whats in their best interest.

Having them available for selection is a bonus.

I don't like the current system in regards to the constant changes to the team we have experienced during the year, however when our AFL players come back they do give 100%. Unfortuanately we can't rely on building our side around them now or in the future as unjust as it seems

Surely it is a two way street, The AFL clubs seem to want the best of two worlds, in the end the Eagles team that got us to the finals and won two finals was NOT built around AFL players, the AFL clubs and SANFL clubs NEED each other, common sense has to prevail so if available and fit the qualified AFL players should be allowed to play.

Sure, let the SANFL club ( Lets say if the player plays 11 SANFL games and 11 AFL games ) pay 50% of that players yearly contract.

Cant have it both ways.

I wouldn't have a clue, but they are apparently (according to the club email) submitting to fitness tests to prove their fitness this week.

It's a risk the coaching staff will need to assess. Broadbent and Salter are high quality players and them at 80% might still be better than a reserves level player at 100%. As long as they can give it their all.

I just hope that if those guys want to play and deem themselves ready to play, that the Power don't hold them back.

If they can't play then you back whoever the 21 are that get picked.

I agree..... why disrupt a winning team. AFL players coming in and out has been a problem for the Eagles all season

Someone has to come in .... we cant go in unchanged due to the injuries.

So in each case the choice is either a fit (assume in form) reserves player or an AFL player who has been out of action for a few weeks

A probably tradeoff between skill / experience and fitness

It will surely come down to their fitness level.

Remember - Broadbent & Salter came up through the Eagles system and have a strong afinity with the club
it appears this is important for them to represent the Eagles which is great to se.

I have no problem with these guys playing SANFL finals. Just a question - should Salter pop his knee during the game - with no need to stay match fit for the Power, who pays his medical bill ?

When playing for The SANFL, whoever pays them normally. Simple, if they qualify, let them play because if you don't and the wiggles lose, this will be their only excuse.

At the press conference this morning, Michael Godden said Broadbent had been cleared to play by the Power, Salter to be tested tomorrow by the Port medicos.

Nick is away holidaying with his girlfirend in Queensland and has agreed to come home early (lunch time tomorrow) to train tomrorow night in an attempt to help out the Eagles.

Happy now Aerie?
