How Andrew Hayes wasn't picked ahead of Panozzo is an absolute joke.

Andrew Hayes is the best defender in the SANFL by a country mile.

His marking ability is way above SANFL standard and he would be the best tackler in the game along with Nick Lower.

Mind you, CKs' team is not the official SANFL team of the year, just his. :)

Here's one for the archives - "I agree with CK that Ferguson shouldn't be in the side." He's one of the best few players in the comp, but only played half a season. Zorzi at full-back doesn't fit what I think the criteria should be, seeing that he played a full season on-ball.

I agree with Grocke at CHF; he's been under-rated for a long time. I haven't seen enough of Tenace, but his selection surprised me and I would definitely have Scott Lewis in the side, but I doubt he played half-back much?

I think Nat Caruso's a bit lucky, although he had a strong finish to the year.

Overall, though, a pretty good effort, CK.

PS: WHUFC, I'll back Ferguson as the best defender in the SANL by a long, long, way. Proven by performance.

That team has no key defenders and the back 6 was the easiest to pick?

Lawry the best full back all year. Zorzi has been playing on ball most of the year, while Hayes has played a lot of midfield and forward roles, not to mention he plays as a flanker most of the time. McGuinness is another who is really a flanker. Lawry into FB and a real CHB in as well for mine.

Not going to bite on the Ferguson v Hayes "better player" debate but I hope anyone comparing has seen a decent amount of both this year. No doubt though that Ferguson shouldn't be in the side. A state side might be different, but this isn't a state side.

Justin Cicolella and Ben Grieger for mine should be in any SANFL type team of the year.

The job Grieger did on Chambo in particular this season is testament to his inclusion in any of these types of teams, just 5 goals in 4 games this season.

To be fair, Chambers was off for 3 quarters in one of them. ;)

All due respect to Ben Grieger, he is one of the most underrated players in the league I reckon, But I think Heath Lawry's run from defence and more importantly skill level is slightly ahead of Benny's. Purely IMHO but I would just take Heath Lawry over Paul Northeast, I mean Ben Grieger ;)

Zorzi has played full back every other season since 2005, this is the first season he has been shifted back into his original Northern Bullants position of centre, therefore felt that naming him there was a reasonable one.

But you're picking the 2010 team, not the 2005-2009 team.
Also, Jarrod Silvester was rarely beaten at FB all year.

You didn't see Ben Grieger's lace out pass to the leading forward last Sunday? ;)

PS. Your comment on Grocke being "too inconsistent" is ill informed. IMO he has been one of our most consistent and best players this year. Finally getting acknowledgement from CK in team of the year, but otherwise still an under rated player. One of the best pick ups the Eagles ever got.

Perhaps Big Phil heard Matt Rendell on AA the other night .Something about watching him in 10 games he played crap and then Sunday he turned it on.
Funny Adam was told he wouldn't/couldn't make the Roosters Seconds team and the rest is history .He was the 2006 CHF in the grand final winning team. And keeps playing in a team that has missed the finals for one year since then!!
I think IMHO Adam has benefited from "GODS" game plan this year.No unforeseen dropping to the seconds by this coach unless u count the forced holiday but the tribunal ;) .

And I saw Bens lace out pass. ;)

I'd have Grocke, Grieger, and Cica all in the team.Perhaps Cica changing off the bench in the midfield rotation.

Firstly, CK, good on you for sticking your neck out .. These things are never going to please everyone because we all have different ratings of players, biases of our own (naturally though, as we see them every week), and there's always going to be positional debate.

I would have Zorz in my team of the year but I certainly wouldn't have him in the backline, but I would have Puopolo back there somewhere - But hey that's just me and my own outlook, so kudos to you for having a dip at your team.

Fair call Spelly but that's not our fault. Can't help it if Chambo is soft. ;) ;)

Sorry mate but ill back Hayes any day of the week proven by performances on the big stage, the fact he stays on the park for more than 3 games in a row puts him miles ahead of Ferguson.

I rate Ferguson big time but Hayes is at a level way above any one else, just take a look at his performance yesterday. Was outstanding playing in 3 different parts of the ground, is almost the most versatile player in the SANFL now apart from maybe MacKenzie from the Eagles.

Fortunately, wiser judges than us unanimously think otherwise.
