Backed them as well. Great win by Iggies - as an Iggies man in absentee, it's great to hear that the boys put up such a great performance on the weekend. My old man went to the game and said that two weeks previously, PAOC had a bigger and more vocal crowd but for the GF Iggies supporters easily outnumbered Princes, and were as loud as he had ever heard them. Rog, I'm sure the boys going across to Melbourne for Grand Final day will be only too happy to share the experiences with you! Prez Zollo especially!

On another note, he was also chatting with Kev Whitford (Old Iggie & Crows physio) - Kev went to Roo after the game and gave his commiserations. Roo replied "Doesn't mean anything to me mate". Apparently he got $4k for playing just that game too - dunno about that one though, much like Chinese whispers I'm sure that story has been magnified through every pair of ears it passes.

Congrats to the boys, and hopefully they put up a good account of themselves in Div 2 next year.

if it ment nothing too him
a/ he wouldnt have played!
b/ he wouldnt have had a jab in his knee before the game so he could play!
**** like that make a bloody legend of a bloke and a club working hard to get the right results look ****! not having a crack at you personally scouser but. that bullshit really gets me going!
i sit on the committee/play a-grade and we dont have 4k to spend on that sort of thing! im sure the pissed bloke who told you that thought it was a great yarn but its crap!

on the game we got done by the better side on the day. simple as that. well done frinny and the lads, if your going to loose it may as well be in that fashion.

yeah, I figured as much - I was just relaying what was said to me, I had serious doubts about the 4k bit, and wasn't there for the conversation - it could've been misinterpreted. I actually just spoke to another mate who said something similar to what you're saying so I probably should've checked my sources better (knowing that my old fella also tends to over-exaggerate a few things!).

Prolly due to the splitting of the PAOC crowd in half given they had the C's and D's down at St Marys.

Beat me to it Trader. If Iggies had anything that resembled depth, they too might have had their supporters and players split amongst 4 grand finals and 2 venues at opposite sides of town.

Just looking from the outside in this is. Old Ignatians were the best side on the given day in September which is all you have to do BUT I get the feeling their recruits will be long in retirement while the young PAOC are taking their team from Division 2 to Division 1 over the next year or two. You cant beat experience and Old ignatians were well served by their great experienced recruits on the weekend, but I get the feeling which side will be making the greatest inroads to Division 1 and would like more than a tenner on PAOC being that side. Not a criticism of Old Iggies just an observation, for the short term and not long term. Congratulations to Old Ignatians who were the best side on the day and did their research well on which players to shut down. O'Loughlin and Connelly were pivotal to the win with their great tagging jobs as was White and so many others. For O'Loughlin and Connelly they both sacrificed for their side as both players are normally attacking players and like to run. There efforts in curtailing the PAOC chief play makers and to sacrifice their own game showed great team spirit and a great Coaching move

But on the other hand... a premiership for their club.
GF experience for their younger players, also may find recruiting easier with a jump to D2.
IIRC they've been stuck in D3 for a long time?? (nearly 10 years??)

On roo not caring, that one is totally incorrect
he spoke at 3 quarter time before the coach addressed the side and seemed genuine in wanting to win. No one likes to lose. Was trying to rally the troops!

How much he is getting payed only PAOC, Roo and the person that pays him knows, I heard he gets alot for a minor round game so a few thousand for GF isnt out of the question!

I know a lot of clubs dont pay for finals as they are games which are seen to be a privelige to play, i wouldn't think you would to pay any one thousands for a chance to play in a GF no matter who they are, i kno a couple of ppl that missed out on the weekend and there's more chance of someone being bribed not to play

I would like to clarify the bit about Whitford and the Roo.....a few people suggested when heavily drunk and after 2 days on the turps something along those lines as a little bit of a joke hence how it has been relayed onto this site. I watched the game and Roo did give a sh!t, he led hard all day, made a couple of big contests especially to some of the boys that dropped into the hole and showed some emotion when a couple of decisions didn't go his way. Who cares how much he got paid, I know the Iggies boys that played in the game don't really care, in fact they were quite excited at the prospect of playing someone who they grew up idolising.

Well done to all PAOC boys on being gracious in defeat and on behalf of the boys at Iggies they are looking forward to tackling you in 2011.

On the bit of Iggies not as being as good off as PAOC, I disagree with the appointment of Joe Pedler as coach, I think he will be able to recruit some excellent recruits. Tom Carr was up at the Bath Hotel with the boys on Saturday night celebrating their win.........

I was polite enough not to chip the great man Roo when I saw him at the All Australian function last night here, but I couldn't wipe the grin. No words exchanged, as he already knew the score when I'd grilled him a month ago asking if he was going to play finals or not, and I was shattered when he said yes, he was, having declared the allegiance. I'm sure, in 29 years' time, the '10 boys will be declaring to all and sundry how Roo was playing at his 98 peak and it was them who had to stand in front of him.

I'm expecting my DVD copy when the lads roll into town on Friday week and GF eve could be a very long and dangerous night.

Igs went only upwards from A7 in the club's inception in 1972 until A2 in 1977. Then dropped back to A3 after 1979 when we lost a couple of great foundation players and then fell down to A4 in 1981 when the remaining couple retired. We won the flag immediately in 1981 to get back up to A3 and I stand to be corrected (having missed a few years overseas in the late 80-s, early 90s, but I think we've done every year in A3 since 1982.
I'm happy to be told I'm wrong, having missed a few key years, but I'm reasonably certain we've had 29 years in the one grade, generally always finishing 4-7, rarely worrying about relegation and equally never a threat in the last few weeks of the year.

Spot on catch. Iggies recruited with the aim of being competitive in Div 3, with the ultimate aim of winning promotion to Div 2. Having achieved that, they can now focus on some additional recruiting for Div 2. The fact that they have had some premiership success this year, and will be playing Div 2 footy next year, should make the club more attractive to potential recruits.

Iggies have been in Div 3 for 12 years, having been promoted on the back of losing the Div 4 grand final to Pembroke in 1998. Very glad to finally make the jump up to Div 2 again.

Happy to tell you otherwise rog - as i said previously only the last 12 years in the same grade. Prior to that there has been some movement up the grades, unfortunately on the back of losing grand finals (in 1989, 1994 and 1998), with corresponding drops through relegation in between. However, the majority of those 29 years have been either Div 3 or 4.

No idea on the other guys but Carr is assistant I thought I seen so will be around the place!
You would think Pedler will be a playing coach aswell, creates so much drive for them from half back

I would say Pedler will play and will have Ant Sheehan as his trusty sidekick on the sidelines and maybe Tom helping as well

Certainly was an amazing day for the boys. To finish third play 4 tough finals and beat the undefeated side in the gf showed the character of the group. The boys tackled fiercely and aggressively and didnt let PAC get any sort of game going at all. Amazing scenes when the final siren went and something that the group will remember forever. Well done lads.

Heard that some off the seniors boys not quite up to pace on Mad Monday had to go home early leaving it to the younger group to carry on with the festivities
