So in 112 years of medals NA players have won the medal an astonishing 21 times
And more if you add up the players who started with NA and won for another club

Squire is the last player to win 2 medals in the SANFL and guess where he started

Squire X 2

Plus Atkinson, A Jarman, G McAdam

= 26 we win!

Says something about our great club - I just don't know what but I hope it is good :(

Although is you are going to claim those five, we would then have to discount McKenzie's two (he won his first at Torrens), Leahy, who came from West Adelaide and Archard who came from South Adelaide.

All bullcrapping aside
Why didnt the ABC do a broadcast of this medal count ?
They do a great job televising the SANFL minor round and Finals
Why didnt they do the gig for the medal ?

To me a Mag medal count on the ABC would prob have more viewers than :

A great night, it's the first Margarey I've been to and it was more fun than I expected it to be. God bless the liquor industry and a sponsor's invite.

I was trying to work out what percentage of the crowd I'd sledged at some stage through the years but it got too high. Alleway's a big lad up close. I'm not sure if there's a 'what happens at the Margarey stays at the Margarey' rule but I saw one hilarious exchange between Knuckles and Mickan that Mark couldn't wait to finish.

Another feather in the cap for Bassett with Norwood polling more than any other team and with a great spread of votes that probably cost Ned any chance of winning.

BTW Soders did a super job, extremely professional.

It is interesting to look at the breakdown of James Allan's votes.

8 vs South
6 vs Port
3 vs West
3 vs Glenelg (the 3 "dodgy" votes that AM Bays has mentioned)
2 vs Eagles
0 vs Sturt
0 vs Centrals
0 vs Norwood

You draw the conclusions. I know I have :)

It is very hard to poll votes when your team loses by 60 points plus. I think that it iis churlish in the extreme to criticise Allan for only polling votes in games North won. Without Allan and Alleway, I personally think North would have finished bottom this year.

Rssell Eert always killed Woodville and North when we were a poor side. Should we therefore question his medals because he was best on ground in those games?

By the way, Jimmy Alan got 45 touches, 29 kicks and 16 handballs in the "dodgy" game. He got 3 votes that day from the 200 game club as well.

Interestingly the 200 club has given him their best player award 4 years in a row. You would think those blokes would know a thing or two about football.

I suppose we can deduce that you're more likely to score votes when your team wins as opposed to when it gets beaten.
That's rocket science that noones ever worked out before in the history of the Magarey and Brownlow and most awards around the world!

I think the other aspect that some are overlooking is how much harder it would be to poll in a team that has struggled ... Any of the top half a dozen players were probably going to be worthy winners, but it looked to me as though the count ended up about right .. Certainly from a Norwood perspective it highlighted what most of the football public and club faithful expected, that we have several poll worthy players.

IMHO Jimmy Allan would get a game for every club in the competition and can't be disregarded as both a worthy winner and fantastic footballer.

Has always killed South. We seem to lack anybody who thinks it might be a good idea to follow him around.

Every other player in the comp is also free to rack up votes against the lower ranked sides.

You must be thinking of another game - he had 24 touches in that R5 game.
By the way, don't take my comments as too much of an attack - I'm just pointing out some stats and letting people interpret them however they like ;)

Well done to James Allan for his win. A great night at a special event.

A few surprises on the night, IMHO:

- Tim Weatherald does not poll a vote in his 300th game against Port for 30 possessions, when most observers award him BOG.

- Norwood's Kieran McGuinness does not poll any votes. South's Nick Liddle only polls seven. Regardless of being in a bottom team, he had some games where he was absolutely dominant. Sturt's Jonathan Giles polls only five votes, Glenelg's Trevor Cranston one - possibly an indication that the thought of a ruckman again winning the Medal may be in the past.

- Round 21, WA 3.4 def P.A 2.4. WA's Greg Rowe polls 3 votes for 13 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal. Nat Caruso 2 votes for 9 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal. PA's Mark Dolling 1 vote for 23 disposals,, 2 marks. James Miekeljohn does not poll for 10 disposals, 45 hitouts.

There were a few on the night that raised some eyebrows, and any mention above is not intended to be a criticism of either the players who received votes or the umpires involved, but an observation as to how differently people view games.

Otherwise, an excellent night and always great to see so many of the legends of the SANFL there.

I thought he was close to BOG when Norwood ventured down to Noarlunga late in the year. Was a brickwall at CHB and would have had 20+ quality touches.

On Liddle, I have no research to back it up, but it seems that in recent years a much greater % of the 6 votes on offer seem to go to the winning club, moreso than in the past.
