Number of byes in Central

Postby Chook » Mon Jan 22, 2007 2:42 pm

Interested to hear the forums view on the number of byes this year.

There was plenty of discussion about there being too many byes last year having 2 normal byes, 1 for interleague, 1 for the state country carnival and 1 for easter. Therefore 5 all up playing 16 games

This year it is a complete turn around with Birdwood coming up. scratch the 2 normal byes, also scratched is the state country carnival bye and also easter is scratced as the season starts after easter. therefore leaving only 1 bye.

Now if players play interleague they will play 3-4 trails, 18 games, interleague, then ,maybe finals. this measn before they enter finals they will play 22-23 straight games.

Thoughts of some players on here. Does that mean you would not play interleague so you can have one bye?? I know I would need the break if I was still playing!!!!
How good is footy!

even though this was in the 80's some players from hahndorf played usually 2-3 trial games 18 home and away plus 3-4 finals and 2 lovelock shield games(on the same w/e) include all the training sessions for your club and association and still went premiers 84-85. if you enjoy your sport you can do anything but times have changed

Players are happy with the coach.

This was something dreamt up by outsiders.

It's a tough gig when you've got probably 30+ A grade quality players and only 21 sposts each week - you can't please everyone.

Plus, in '06 there was a deal where anyone in the club could pay $500 to pick the side on any given week. If people weren't happy, they could have picked the side themselves.

I was VERY tempted to part with my cash and pick myself in the A's for the GF. It would have been a long arvo on the pine though! Not to mention I would have been the most hated person at Heathfield (if I'm not already!!!)

just stiring da. as you say it's impossible to pick 21 players when you have 30 that would be good enough to make the side. as for the shanty playing in the candy stripes, not very likely this year if at all. interesting to see where s broadbridge will be playing this year. wouldn't think he would be donning on the stripes after last year. any thoughts da?

Dunno about Sammy. I hope he's there.

I'd say he's got too many mates at Dev Park to go elsewhere.

**** I wish it was footy season already!

Hello Birdwood....................anyone there?............do they have internet access out there?

Seems very quiet from the Birdwood front, does anyone have any news, rumours, utters lies and garbage about our new addition to the central division?

Has anything more been argued/sorted out/ignored over the jumper clash with Lofty? I know they are wearing the old North style V but both jumpers are now all red on the back with white numbers. Could make reporting someone pretty interesting cause they would all look the same from behind!

Utter lies and garbage:

Birdwood may have a phone line connected by late July 2007 at which time their season will be over anyway. They are still waiting on electricity and running water. As for sewerage systems, they don't know that these exist yet, so take some TP and a shovel with you on your travels to the northern hills this winter!

Birdwood will be wearing Bridgewater jumpers when they play Mt Lofty creating 4 derbies for the season. It will be the same at each game - shanties getting flogged by the Devils and feral supporters of the team in blue behaving badly.

Boodley O'gorman has both fists wrapped in cotton wool to unleash on Birdwood as the jumper clash will be his only plausable defence for whacking someone in '07. Please, please please Loby sniper - move to Birdwood! The whole hills wants to see you get your face smacked off again!!!

You got me there.

Actually, it's only one supporter on the Heathfield balcony.

That guy's an absolute disgrace!

Against Uri many moons ago a cabbage was launched from the balcony by said supporter as a 15yo. That prompted their b grade coach to march up, pick up the supporter and chuck him in the bushes threatening to punch his head in. In hindsight, a beating was on the cards and would have been comeuppance!!!!!

flying fox,
how about we just call him sleeze! I think those in the know think he is too slow for div 1 footy- was dubbed the turtle at one stage- too slow and pulls his head in when it gets too tough! I would be a little concern The stories go that he is keen to coach - so be interested if he starts to undermine pagey -like is rumoured he did with Dent. Carberry is too injury prone- sat in the goal square most of last year and stilled pulled hamstrings- and I am sure he will miss games through suspesion has a big reputation as someone who's elbows tend to stray from his body!
Osborn will be a handy pick up for SHOCs great reader of the ball, but cant kick it- rumour has it great for late night lock ins as well

Will watch out for any rumours 'sleaze' undermines Page up there. From all accounts Page is a great coach and coached interleague last year also. Problem at townies i was told was that the assistant coach was trying to knife Dent to get the top job and once Dent got the sack he missed out! Rumour has it the asistant is heading to Peake with his tail between his legs...

Yes I heard Downs headed for Peake- but wouldn't think it is with his tail between his legs! Quite contrary I heard that he was well respected at Townies and that many players disappointed when he didn't get the job?

bensen buying a team instead of developing the juniors is what ive been told

also troy bond is an arrogant idiot, played against him this year and he is very very lazy, struggled against us

im sure troy bond could care less what u or anyone else thinks- can't bag a bloke who's won a AFL premiership mate.

Well at least I've stirred up a bit of controversy at last. Gets a bit boring with all this Centrals' stuff. Apparently 6 alledged SANFL ex-players will be coming with him. Believe it when we see the score on the board.

By the way, I meant to ask, has anyone heard anything about the Wunkar Carnival this year? Is it still happening and who is going? Pretty wild week-end.
