My Security Shield virus

Just a heads up if anyone gets this, i got it today and found this site and got it removed. It all seems to be good now, dont have virus detected messages showing up every 5 mins.

My Security Shield is yet another rogue anti-spyware that has been spreading around the web in the past week. Although it might look like a legitimate anti-spyware, My Security Shield is in fact a virus, and you should try to remove it as soon as you notice its presence on your computer.
The My Security Shield virus gets on your computer if you fall a fake “your computer is infected” message shown by fake online virus scanners. Once the My Security Shield virus gets on your computer, it will be programmed to start automatically each time your Windows loads. Once My Security Shield is up and running, it will start scanning your computer for viruses. Please note that the results are fake (in fact, the files it detects as infections were created by the same Trojan that installed the My Security Shield rogue on your computer) and the only thing you need to do is remove the My Security Shield virus using our removal guide below.

Yes, it pays to be wary of "free" offers - they may come with a price.
I do use freebies - Zone Alarm, Avira Antivirus, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes currently - but only after doing some research on web fora about them.
I did download the EMCO Malware Destroyer, but both Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes reported it as spyware, so I uninstalled it.

As long as your windows install is legit, you can use Microsoft security essentials.

Free, easy to use & configure and has been good catching new virus's as long as its kept up to date.

I wouldn't rely on that Microsoft product as my sole protection any more than I would trust the very leaky Internet Explorer.

I completely agree, but its free and I have found it quite useful and better then McAfee and a few other paid products.

I use several applications for security purposes.

A PS to the thread..
Avira Free Antivirus, which I had been using at home, has recently starting leaking Trojans.
I assume it has been targeted as it was previously quite effective.
Fortunately, my weekly run of Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes alerted me to them over the last two weeks.
Yesterday I got a stubborn dose of background activity I couldn't identify or shift easily.
[ It showed up only as impaired function and higher than usual resource usage, not identified in Task Manager.]

So, I downloaded the latest version of Comodo Antivirus [free version] and it cleaned them up [3 of them] nicely.
I'd used Comodo before but its interface was a bit clunky and over complex.
The new version is much better.
