:) The mere fact that a comic giant like Will Ferrell has seen fit to use "Reminiscing" as a musical centrepiece for his latest movie, "The Other Guys", (which is apparently full of LRB references) should be evidence enough of the high place they hold in musical society. :)

I saw Fleetwood Mac in Melbourne last year.

I flew over with Mrs Southee for her birthday......yes Im only 36 so I grew up with the Tango in the Night era (1987).

I have to say it was a 9/10 for me. They played for 2 and a half hours but the overall standout was Lindsey Buckingham. The man is an absolute genius on guitar (He stole the show!!!) Even played his underated solo hit from 1984 "Go Insane". Sorry , no "Holiday Road" from National Lampoons Vacation!!! His guitar solo was Mad!!! One of the best things I have ever seen at a show.

Its hard to believe how many hits this band has.....here is the setlist from the Melbourne show I saw last year :)

1.Monday Morning
2.The Chain
3.Dreams
4.I Know I'm Not Wrong
5.Gypsy
6.Go Insane Lindsey Buckingham
7.Rhiannon
8.Second Hand News
9.Tusk
10.Sara
11.Big LoveLindsey Buckingham solo
12.Landslide
13.Never Going Back Again
14.Storms
15.Say You Love Me
16.Gold Dust Woman
17.Oh Well
18.I'm So Afraid
19.Stand Back
20.Go Your Own Way
Encore:
21.World Turning
22.Don't Stop
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Half your luck, Southee, I would have loved to seen that. Was disappointed that, when Dire Straits were listed as coming to Adelaide, it turned out to be Mark Knopfler with a backing band, so passed up.

Most of my collection is usually deemed horrible. Ah well :D

Hmmm...well I'm none the wiser. I know it's elevator music but it's the context that makes them so interesting for me. I remember seeing a Classic Albums doco on Rumours which was pretty illuminating. One thing's for sure, I don't put the Mac alongside the likes of the Eagles, Dire Straits or LRB -all of which make me break out in hives - though I do understand why some would. I'll stick with Tusk, and apart from 'Big Love', maybe consign Tango in the Night to the MOR abyss.

OK, here's my next conundrum. Icehouse. From swirly, sub-Ultravox synths as Flowers to Richard Wilkins-era MTV staples with Electric Blue. I go through phases where I really like some of their stuff (eg Sidewalk) and I've always had a soft spot for Iva Davies' Bowie-isms, but there are times I think they are unconvincing, soulless and kinda awful. Cool or crap?

Shilo is a great album. I recently gave my dad his last 2 Rick Rubin produced efforts which put him in the same company as Johnny Cash, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Metallica, ACDC, The Cult and...er... Mel C.
Neil = cool

Big IceHouse fan ZZ. I bought all their remasted albums on CD and have a few on vinyl too. Iva sometimes tried a bit too hard to be a cross between Bowie and Gary Numan I reckon IMO. He is a great songwriter, I must say some of his music is a little self indulgent (always had 1 or 2 tracks on a album that were a bit artsy).
The "Flowers" and "Primitive Man" albums are classics.
Iva was also known for a fantastic "Mullet" too
