That's correct, because whatever a Sturt fan says is gospel, apparently.

So that must mean that Sturt have a direct connection to God

Those who believe in such things would probably say God is responsible for the weather

That would make Sturt guilty by association

Ergo...the condition of the oval is Sturts fault.

In a historical sense you are correct JAS, because Sturt had a number of Lutheran ministers playing for them in the 50s-60s.

Bit sensitive about your oval guys. We know it rained, and it isn't like Norwood Oval is so great that the raindrops would be repelled by the brilliant surface prepared by those red and blue blooded groundsmen they have at the Parade. I don't know what you are hoping to achieve by attacking anyone who merely states that the oval was in poor condition.

We censor all references to the goalsquare at Norwood, we've never been big on the colour Blue. ;)

Case of misinterpretation I think, the ground definitely was a quagmire on Friday night, but not unexpectedly so.

I think the point relates to the tone, and what was implied. If it was misread by anyone, then just say so. Of course the very bad weather and a game of reserves followed by a game of league was going to affect the surface. But the way some Sturt supporters (obviously scarred by references past to Unley Oval) described it was poor to say the least.

I could go on and on about Unley Oval - hell, I've heard plenty of stories first hand about flooding in that area over the years - but I wont. Suffice to say that irrespective of the fact that hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent improving the Norwood Oval surface, employing two groundsmen full time and so forth, the Oxford and Cambridge crew sat under cover in our grandstands and sledged the playing surface. It wasn't suffienient to describe the situation as "terrible playing conditions" or "waterlogged" or the like. It was a bog, a dung-heap etc. None of which is exactly the sort of thing those two groundsmen would like to hear their hard work described as.

All it takes if for people to think about their choice of words. If they mean what they write, so be it but be prepared to wear any fallout.

The radio commentary mentioned the state of the oval a few times, they also mentioned that they had an inch of rain in a matter of minutes in the reserves. So, I fully expect the state of the oval to be mentioned in the match thread under these circumstances. No one's is having any cheap shots, they are just saying it looked like a bog. I don't see how the integrity of ground staff or whoever needs to be defended.

Page 1- Bayman "Norwood swimming pool". Squawk referring to Noarlunga "and the oval is a slush pond"
Page 2- Purch "The oval was the biggest bog I've seen in a long time"
Cambridge Clarrie- "I can't remember an oval looking as bad as the Parade did last night"
Squawk- first uses the term "quagmire"
Page 3- Jimmy quotes "bog and quagmire" as do I but I threw in "mud pit" at the same time saying that Unley would've been a bog. 76'er- adds that it was a bog and is very fair in his manner.

So let me just say that I think people have been misinterpreted and misrepresented. I don't think anyone has really given the NFC or it's curators any grief whatso ever. For all that you have posted Squawk I actually think that you want to have a good look at how you choose to interpret observations and or criticisms. For what it's worth I think unley would've been worse under the same conditions. No offence to the groundsmen at unley of course ;)

Pls forgive me for being a bit vague in who it was (I was only half listening since Josh Carr's interview had concluded)

A player was interviewed on 5AA SANFL Show tonight, and was asked if Friday night was the worst oval conditions he had played under.
His response "No" because he had played in an underage match where the sewerage pipes had broken and had poured all over the Unley Oval, yet they still played the match. :vom:

Nothing wrong with a bit of 'colour radio' in suggesting that an inch of rain fell in a few minutes in the reserves. But if it really had, the reserves game would have been abandoned and the league game would have been called off. Those heading to the ground would not have been able to get there, while those already there would have to have sheltered in the stands for an hour or more until the floodwaters abated, and then gingerly trek off in search of their cars, hoping that they hadn't been washed away too far.

Is an inch of rain enough to cause such a disruption?

1/2 an Inch Booney (12.8 mm up until 19:30 hrs 20/08/10 at Kent Town) gee you Port blokes like to over-exaggerate, we aren't discussing fans bases, y'know....

But yeah you'd think the two "blue-blood" clubs fans would be euphoric after this weekends happenings....

Their RIO and BHP shares are about to boom again...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Cheers Dutchy, it's a real pity for him and Sturt, he's been very consistent this season and while others have come in and out of the team he's largely held his spot. I would think he's done enough to be retained by Adelaide.

Good news. I hate seeing any player getting seriously hurt. I like seeing an opposition team having to play short, but don't wish long term injury on any player. :)
