Fanta Pants - I would have though that Adelaide would have the money to do so. Sure, you asked if it was Port but I see it this way. Adelaide are clearly building something that could be successful in the next 3-5 years. We all know you build your teams from the back half and Bock is crucial to Adelaides set up. Adelaide are well known to not throw huge money around and that is what has cost them Bock's signature. In all reality I am sure Adelaide could have afforded it, no doubt. Their list is full of talented youngsters who at this stage come cheap. Have they cut their nose of to spite their face?
There is no doubt in my mind that the AFC did all they could to keep Bock. You could tell by the body language at the press conference that they(craig and trigg) were disappointed Bock left. Yes AFC has a reputation of not throwing huge cash around but AFC definitely has some promising youngsters that would have had their salary considerably increased eg. Tippet, McKay, Dangerfield etc
Also, where do you decide what is actually best for the Team vs keeping 1 player? AFC may have played all their cards within what then allows them to fit a player/s that we need to add to the squad/deficits eg, running midfielder (Griffen?) Davis can cover Bock to an extent and develop further and add Otten to defence it all stacks up IMO!
