The away goals are important though, especially the late one by Pav but Young Boys weren't the pushover Spurs expected.

Who was expecting them the be a pushover? They went away to Fenerbache and won 1-0.

Well, that was classic Spurs. Build up your hopes by making top 4. Remain nervously excited all summer in anticipation of the qualifier to give us the chance to play on the big stage.

4 minutes in - shock. 13 minutes in - disbelief. 28 minutes in - heartbreak.

I thought we were done, dead and buried. You get that sick feeling in your guts that's worse than any hangover. After so much anticipation, the dream's pretty much over, with the lads playing like shool kids.

The 'Arry pulled his masterstroke. BAE off, HUDD on. Bale to left back where he can still provide an attacking threat, with Hudd into the middle to pull the strings and Modric out to the left to take the pressure off.

Against the run of play, Bassong (who was horrid at the back IMO) lept highest and planted his bonce firmly on the ball and into the back of the net. All of a sudden there's a bit of hope. In typical Spurs fashion, from the depths of despair, there's a small glimmer of hope.

The boys actually started to play. Passes started hitting targets and Pav and Defoe started to see a bit of the ball.

With the introduction of Krajcar at half time for the injured Modric, then Keane for the injured Defoe early in the 2nd half, Spurs absolutely bossed the game. Young Boys completely took their foot off the pedal and sat back inviting pressure.

We had a couple of OK chances, but Keano's through ball to Pav was sublime and the finish matched the buildup. SUPER, SUPER PAV, SUPER PAVLYUCHENKO!!!!

To be honest, Pav had a shocking game. Shooting from outside the 18yard box on his left was embarrassing, but he tried it probably 5 times.

Anyhoo, only Spurs could leave a smile on your face despite a loss. After being virtually finished and facing ridicule and another period of underachievement, the players dragged us back into the game and kept our CL dream alive.

This next week is going to be unbearable.

If you blokes play with anywhere near the intensity and level you played against Man City in the return leg then i dont see any reason why Young Boys won't be an easy pushover at WHL! i'll make a bold prediction now Spurs 4-1 Young Boys :D

Hope you're right mate.
I reckon Spurs will be insipid in the first half, realise what's on the line, leave it until late and Ledley King will score a 92nd minute winner from a Bale corner

I will have slit my wrists by the 80th minute and will be lapsing in and out of consciousness in the corner!!

It would be hilarious to see Spurs bundled out of the UCL at the first hurdle but they will get the job done comfortably at WHL I reckon.

I think the squad we have now compared to back then is alot better and has more depth, i think Everton is destined to achieve something this season, whether it be a cup of some sort or top 4. I think being out of Europe this season is another bonus (but id rather be in Europe) as we can concentrate on the league and cups, or maybe Howard isn't of the same view as his concentration lapse led to our game 1 defeat

One of the best games i've seen for a while.
Wasn't sure who i wanted to win this.
I generally go for the english teams in European games (Besides Man United), but Young Boys were playing such crisp football.
I couldn't believe what i was watching when it was 3-0 to Young Boys.
Spurs were lucky to not be down 4,5 or even 6-1 with Young Boys holding their own in the second half.
Pavlyuchenko's goal was world class. Great Finish.

Spurs have got this in the Bag imo. They'll win 2-1 at home and go through on away goals.
It's Somma Time!

I found this very interesting - it is the Payout in EUR for each club that made the group stages of the UCL:

http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/competitions/General/01/51/72/68/1517268_DOWNLOAD.pdf

Even the small clubs like Debreceni and Maccabi Haifa got hefty payouts, despite not even getting a point.

What's also interesting is that despite being knocked out in the Quarter Finals, Man U made almost the same amount as eventual winners Inter!

This table highlights why clubs are so hell bent on qualifying for the Champions League. The challenge once you do make it, is spending your prize money wisely to ensure you can continue to make the grade and share in the prize pool.

Total prize pool of EUR 746.4m!!!!! Yikes!
