What I would like to know how one team can can get so shafted on a day. Often it is me being bewildered at a bad a run my lads are getting but not on this Saturday. On many occasions they missed an obvious one to the bloods and we would get a soft one shortly after.

Some days they just look hell bent on inluenxing the game. Saturday was one of those days.

Well done to Jai Bednall on that AdelaideNow article. It's rare that journalists spell out umpiring one-sidedness like that.

R&B - I reckon Big Phil will be near enough to saying that Westies have been over-exposed in the mainstream media this week!

We still would have lost imo.

No doubt the umpiring was pathetic but that shouldn't take away the fact that we only scored 3 goals for the match.

None of the free kicks Mal had a look at would have had us having a shot for goal either.

BUT
They had ST shooting at goals

AND
A lot of those frees are in effect turnovers
That affects inside 50s for both teams

As a non-aligned supporter I felt that the frees played against the flow of play to Sturt when West were challenging were damaging to West in terms of destroying their game plan and probably denting their morale.

Sturt may well have still won but if some of the dubious frees on Sturt's half-back line hade not been paid then a couple of more scoring opportunities could have given West the momentum they needed. In such an important game to both sides I thought that it was unfortunate that the umpires were so prominent.
We used to be good :-(

3rd QTR

3 HINGE played for a holding on, could have been paid WING
5 BODE held , gets free in front of goal , right decision
10 DAVIES pushed in the back by CRANE no free
11 CAIRE hit after disposal [By HINGE ?]no free upfield, Mcglone gets a free in that upfield spot at WA HF
14 FIEKE drops a chest mark, but awarded wrongly a mark and goals , costly decision
17 SHEEDY busteld in a pack trys to kick is tackled, but gets a holding on free, 50/50 decision
18 CRANE tackled by MUNN but gets in the back decision [same thing happened to MUNN at the 10 min mark but no free WA ripped off]
20 HARDING tackled in the back but no free, yet CRANE got a free kick for similar 2 mins earlier]
24 GILES in a marking contest is nudged by FERGUSON, GILES got a free kick, kicked it to FF CHAMBO marks and goals This decision a shocker in my opinion, costs WA a goal and momentum

3/4 time
WA 3-6
ST 6-1 that last goal was the killer goal
WA had a good qtr into the breeze
7 points became 13 points
In a low scoring game that really really hurts

DECISION COUNT
WA 8
ST 19

COMMENTS
FISHER is a very courageous footballer, he would be a coaches dream
EZARD got the ball at half forward, runs clear of any ST players and about to shoot at goal perhaps, and the siren goes, one of those days ...
WA should nearly have been in front but for ...
IF WA were equal it changes the dynamics of the game as WA defend better than attack
But still 13 points down with a breeze has them still in the game

LAST QTR
I have not the energy to itemise the last qtr
WA 2 + ST 4 favourable decisions
MATCH TOTAL
WA 10
ST 23

I will bring up the last dubious free kick in the 3rd qtr
FERGUSON ever so slightly nudged GILES free to GILES[result ST 6th goal of match]
In the first QTR FERGUSON was pushed about 3 times as hard by GILES and no free kick [result ST first goal of match]
Sums up the day for WA

This is what Andy Collins had to say to FERGY in the 3/4 time huddle in reference to the GILES nudge by FERGY
"" HOWZAT FOR A FREE KICK HEY."" and Collins laughed ...

why arent the magpies and roosters getting dream runs with the umpires then.

face it west are average at best. play an ultra defemsive game and would simply be making the numbers up if they scrape into the five.

there last 3 performaces would struggle to beat south at the moment

no but if they made the finals they would have more attend than west and eagles combined

at the end of the day west managed to kick 3 goals for the whole game. goodluck winning games with that score no matter how fair the umpiring is

Bad umpiring is bad umpiring and I don't like to see a game ruined by it no matter which team it benefits. Sturt has had heaps of games this year where we've been on the very bad side of the umps so deal with it. To suggest things like game rigging because of better finals crowd figures from a bunch of front runners is moronic. Face up to the fact that you had a bad day with the umps and you were beaten by a better team on the day. I didn't get to either west sturt games this year but it seems that the roles were reversed from one game to the next. If you can't use the wind to your advantage then you're probably going to lose.

Great work, Mal, thanks from all West supporters.

Whatever the comments about West's form, this has been a very rare example of a team's supporters, opposition supporters, journalists and commentators all agreeing that one side was totally dudded.

I make no comment on the result, but it's not only the score that is affected by umpire's decisions, it's morale and momentum as well.

It's not the first time in recent weeks that all observers have agreed that West have been dudded by the umps.

Once is just the way it is.

Twice is highly disappointing.

I hope for the reputation of the umpires that there isn't a third time this season.

not saying the umpiring wasnt one sided. what i am saying is that i doubt very much the umpring decided the result and for some to suggest it is a conspiracy to get sturt into finals because of there larger crowds is laughable and ridicoulous
