Ease up, they wouldnt be spending that much, maybe like 15-20k a week

My apologies, that must be thier budget for next year in Central division. :D

Especially if the rumours Brett Backwell was at the TV game on the weekend are true. Maybe close to a signing???

Can assure you the backwell won't be at TV next year, not even for 2k a week as reported.

Magpie in the 80's, does all the goals maths explain why Niedzwiecki and Lines have over 100 goals between them yet neither have made the bp list? You would think that Beefy, having recruited Michael to the Brookers would have put him in there, considering he files the list (and never puts himself in it)

I would prefer to see these two clubs stick around. I remeber around 6 years ago Callington were a really decent team (may have even played finals?). You always came off the ground knowing you had played a really tough game. Forget his name but they had one of the best full forward's in the league who would kick some freak goals. For their sake, I hope this is just a phase and they will be able to rebuild soon.

If these 2 clubs were serious about staying in country div then they need to do some recruiting to fix up their senior sides. To get beaten by 20+ goals every week wouldn't really give the kids much motivation to hang around and play senior footy for the club.

I think people should cut Sedan some slack as it is only their first year in the Hills League.
I think it was 2 years ago they played off in the GF in the old comp. they were in.
Obviously a major step up in the quality of the comp they now find themselves in. With a better understanding of the standard, they can put some steps in place to close the gap and be competitve. This will take time but with gradual improvement each year i think it can happen.
Also , not sure but i think the old competition they were in didn't play reguarly each weekend. So their kids will improve more rapidly with constant football each weekend.

So what if a few clubs a weak at the moment and getting belted , doesn't mean we all should stand on judgement and demand their closure. Especially when these clubs are providing a place for their towns' kids to play.

Well publicity is what he is going to get - apparently Quinten and Mick will be making an appearance on the Footy Show tomorrow night!

Great, more publicity highlighting how bad callington are and how gutless the hfl board are for allowing it to happen. I wonder what record callington can help another side break next.

Spot on Panther I think we can cut Sedan/Cambrai some slack.
As I mentioned earlier on this thread after speaking to them and being impressed with their generous hospitality at Cambrai, they were hit badly last year with the uncertain nature of their league and where it was going. I believe they lost a core group of 10 families to Motocross for the season as they dedicated themselves to that due to the instability of the Football situation.
However most of them being local they hope they can now commit next year to footy, volunteering, local kids participation and sponsorship that should help them be competitive.
They have a plan give them some time.

That was 12 years ago unfortunately. The player you mention was Anthony Nykamp, Cally made the finals and finished 4th. Why can't they retain their juniors while the seniors go to C Grade? Is there some sort of law against that? If so, how stupid! Surely it's in the best interests of football? And why are Sedan-Cambrai being tarred with the same brush when they've only been here a year? Fair go. They should be allowed at least 5 years to get on their feet in a new league.

While I support juniors, there is no way there could just be a junior team especially since the C Grade play on different days. There is no logistical way that could work but I am of course open to suggestions. I was actually thinking of rankine rather than nykamp, nykamp was a little before my time. I reckon in 2005 they were really competitive but must not have played finals.

Sedan Cambrai really should've followed BSR and gone into Riverland Independent,
a league that they would've at worst been middle of the road.
Not that much more travel for them, and the added excitement of winning games here and there.
Is there anyone Callington could merge with? Even an impact coach couldn't drag them back from those depths.
Port Elliot had to merge with Goolwa in GSFL, because when you are getting rolled by 80 goals
not even 4 or 5 decent players are gonna turn it around.
There is realistically virtually no way back from there, recruits don't want to come to a side
that would get beaten by the Phoenix Society football team.

1998 was the only year Callington was a serious challenger and yes their big recruit was Nykamp from Mt Barker. They drew Ironbank early in the finals which they lost and IB went on to win the flag. They were a good team that year but started falling away after that and it's a long time ago now...
