Things that aren't fair..

A friend of mine losing 2 daughters in the hands of their father.
He took their lives and then his own.
9 years ago today.

No words can describe how she's feeling today and it's just not fair :(
You get what you give....

I was up at 3am today - we had a power cut in the hills again and I had a washing machine and dryer full of clothes to sort out when it came back on late last night.
I had to do what was necessary to avoid shrinkage - then I slept from just after 3am till just after 9am..
Fortunately it was just the Carlton-Essendon game I couldn't watch.

I'm still struggling with post-Prostatectomy "shrinkage" after my surgery for Prostate cancer in May.
But on the positive side we got it all and I'm cured, and being alive for a substantial future is more important.
[The nerves are intact and my surgeon thinks the vascular issues should resolve in time.]

No worries mate. I am reconciled to the situation and happy with the outcome overall.
I didn't mention it here until I had come to terms with the whole thing, and another poster mentioned a few weeks ago that they had just had a TURP.
["Trans-urethral Prostatectomy", which is usually for benign enlargement, or occasionally to relieve urinary obstruction from cancer of the Prostate where full Prostatectomy is not the optimum treatment.]

While on this thread I must admit my last several years have felt a little "unfair":
2006 - dog died
April 2007 - sister died
December 2007 mother died
October 2008 wife died - a few hours after my birthday ended.
2009 - Prostate enlarged and causing symptoms but appeared benign.
April 2010 cancer confirmed.

Fortunately the cancer was detected very early and is all gone - so perhaps my luck is turning again - it seems to go in cycles.

As per my post earlier on this page, a significantly older female contracted pregnancy as a result of one night of intimacy.

At the time I first heard about it, I was 21, and horrified about this chick in her dirty-thirties having my kid.

Fastforward, and now Shannen is just over a year old, and I'm the proudest young dad I've met.

Problem is, in my "horrified" stage, I did and said a few things, and subsequently Shannen's mother moved to Melbourne, and I've now seen Shannen exactly twice in her 13 months of life.

That aside, my good mate sends me a message today, that he has done the same trick- gotten quite drunk, had unprotected intimacy, and is going to be a reluctant father.

What isn't fair, is that because of my "history," he wants advice, and I feel the same way as I did when I first found out.

To avoid helping him make the same mistake, help me!!!

ive got no kids or anything
but surely you would be encouraging him to try and involved in the kids life as much as possible
I know if I got some bird up the duff that would be what Im doing
otherwise years down the track he will regret not doing anything, wont see his child and will feel like a horrible dad!
get on board the thunder train!!!

First bit of advice, you should never put an "E" in Shannen. Now people will spell her name wrong all the time. Lol. It'll give her the shits no end.

Secondly, I simply hope I avoid your situation as I don't have kids either. Rough story. Not an end of the world thing, but I would have felt crook too.

First piece of advice would be for him to get his dick swabbed.
