Stevens should be rendered as a depth player for the backman from now onwards IMO. Davis/Bock to play between Stevens current role and CHB depending on matchup.

I figure Stevens does at least take the odd mark and can kick straight unlike many others.
Didn't he get 5 or 6 against Collingwood once?

On Stevens:
A real whipping boy on BF due to his horrendous clangers and the desire to play rookies.
Hard to argue with that most of the time, but he seems to one of Craig's favourites.
Probably could be shifted forward, but at who's expense?

On Dangerfield:
Has a very strong body for his age, but seems to be trying to do too much at times.
Fumbles and drops marks surprisingly often, but his work in packs is outstanding and you can't question his intensity.
So overall he has a fair way to go to really stamp his authority at AFL level, but he's still developing.

The alternative is to not pass judgement and sit back happy watch a team finish 10th or thereabouts .. I don't think Stevens plays well enough, often enough, it's nothing against the bloke, just an opinion on his footy.

the question is CP, how often do crows finish 10th ? yes it has been a Sh%%t year, but stop always looking negatively. and YES you are not alone.
bit of a glass half empty/full scenario.
i'll say it again, he has been a solid contributor this year and over past years., if his time is up we will find out at the end of the year.

and he is not the only one that cops it on forums such as this. look at doggers, reilly, thompson, craig.. etc etc etc etc.
not saying you should be happy with a 10th finish, but there are other ways to look at it. i got no problem with criticism if it's justified.

Fair enough AF, I reckon I gave some reasonable examples with my post on his performance from last weekend .. I understand the players you mentioned are likely in the Crows best 22 at the moment, but to be genuine contenders Im not sure they all can be on current and recent performances, and for some it's hard to see where the required improvement could come from when they've been in the system as long as they have.

I tend to agree that Stevens would not be in the 22 in the ideal Crows team, and that he does make mistakes.
However, he also gets a lot of the ball, which may otherwise go to opposition players, and given the present inconsistency of most players he earns his place.
Doughty is a similar type who also earns his place by being consistent if not a "star".
