India in Sri Lanka

Re: India in Sri Lanka

India's hopes of drawing level in the Test series against Sri Lanka were dealt a serious blow with Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh being ruled out of the second Test in Colombo. Gambhir was racing against time to recover from a troublesome knee, and the team management decided to leave him out after a final assessment on Monday morning. Yuvraj, who struck an attacking fifty in the first innings of the first Test was down with fever, leaving India without the services of their two first-choice left-hand batsmen.

Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina, who makes his debut, took their places in the side.

India are already fielding a depleted side for the series, with fast bowlers Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth missing out due to injuries. Offspinner Harbhajan Singh was down with flu in the lead-up to the first Test and struggled for fitness through the course of the match

Combined total of 4/737 after 2 days play.

Really super stuff there, captivating, Exhillerating are 2 words that dont come to mind.
Fair dinkum, this kind of sh*t is killing Test cricket.
Watched a bit of the conclusion of the Sri Lankan innings and fair dinkum, i could've comfortably racked up a 1/2 century. Road of a pitch. No swing. No movement off the pitch. Defensive fields. Bowlers looked as threatening as my net bowling.

It's no wonder all the sub-continent batsmen average over 50.

Absolute rubbish cricket.

Jackpot , your post has expessed the thoughts of many of us on SAfooty
MAYZ summed up in the PA V AU 2nd test how good it was to see bowling advantaged Test matches

The last team from the subcontinent to conquer the world for a duration of time was Genghis Khans team
The sub cont teams will enjoy short term top rankings as India do at the moment
But creating a dynasty or a decade of dominance will be difficult to achieve if they continue to create lifeless pitches for thier fast bowlers
They will invariably flounder on tours

4/737 = JOKE

exactly - i dont mind the occassional test match like this but there are far too many

sub continent pitches used to be a batsmen dream early on then spin a lot later so at least some bowlers got a chance but that doesnt even seem to happen much lately

Stumps Day 4.

And the enthralling contest continues.

Match score 13/1311

Batting average of 100.85

Thats Bradmanesque like but sadly hasn't been worth watching.

Maybe the ICC need to bring in 10 day Test matches over there to make these matches relevant as all they do flatter average batsmen's averages.

Meenwhile England are 4/125 against Pakistan in what IS a GENUINE contest between bat & ball and is well worth watching.

You sound about as interested in this series as I am. The series is live on the Setanta Sports channel which is a stand alone private channel you can get on Foxtel for the oh so reasonable price of $17 a month! or there is something like a 2 hour highlights package of the previous day's play on one of the Fox Sports channels each day.

I think 5 would be a fairer answer Brod. 5 is an unbelievable achievement.

For a bloke who plays a majority of his innings on sub-continent roads, 5 isn't many compared to what I would have expected.
Still a great achievement, I think Brod was alluding to the fact that he, like many, would have expected more.
