Im confused
NORTH took 6 wickets in an innings last test and was responsible with the iconic safooty chosen one in propelling AU to victory
Im thrilled as we all are with SMITH batting well and getting a bowl by Richard
But surely NORTH was worth a spell given the inadaqueties of the 3 prong speed attack on tour ?

There are 2 ways to look at Mr NORTH whos form is spiralling south
He fails, he frustrates , he can cost you a Test match [this Test an example]
But when he fires he is a match winner with the bat, and occasionally with the ball

NORTH is struggling at 6 to get a start
When he plays for WA he is essentailly a 3-4 batter
He will start most innings against quicks who get some kick off the deck, that suits him
Swing bowlers and spinners are a prob batting at 6 early in his digs

One thing I will say about NORTH
When heeez batting well he looks as good as any batsman in the team
With the imminent retirements of Kat, Hus, Ponts, AU needs a top order batter, if only NORTH can hang in until then

Only problem is that he bats as well as anyone in the team, for the dozen balls he faces...

IF I WAS CAPTAINING AUSTRALIA TONIGHT

I would not have 4 slips gullys short legs short covers etc etc
Cant set attacking fields with less than 50 to defend
I would set the ring of confidence
2 slips, 3rd man, fine leg and 5 other fielders hovering around the batsman saving singles off and leg
Make em bloody earn every single run
The bowlers can stagnate the scoring
You never know
The objectivity is keep em out there until the lunch break if need be
No easy runs
Pressure
Pressure
Chat to the batters
Remind them that they do choke
Take at least 4 wickets today and make them earn victory
Hilfenhaus and Watson must open the bowling, they are the 2 who can bowl this plan of mine
Rug and Mitch are too attacking and will leak runs off the middle and edge of the bat

You never know

Fox Sports 3 aren't scheduled to start showing play tonight until 9:30pm so as the game will probably be over by that stage the first session will be shown on the Fox Sports News channel from 7pm.
