European League Football Season 2010/11

OK, maybe scraping the barrel now. I know there might not be much interest in the European leagues, outside Spain, Germany, and Italy who have thier own threads, but I thought maybe a monthly wrap on the rest wouldn't hurt and there might, just might, be someone out there who is descended from the old world.

Like Finland, Norway kicked off early, in fact they started way back on March, took a break for a month in June and started back in July.

Here's the table so far

Pos Team.......Pld W D L..... F A Diff Pts
1 Rosenborg 17 10 7 0 30 9 21 37
2 Valerenga 17 10 4 3 38 19 19 34
3 Tromso 17 9 5 3 20 13 7 32
4 Viking 17 8 5 4 28 16 12 29
5 Aalesund 17 8 3 6 25 19 6 27
6 Strømsgodset IF 17 8 2 7 26 32 -6 26
7 Start 17 7 4 6 30 29 1 25
8 Lillestrom 17 5 9 3 27 19 8 24
9 Stabaek 17 6 6 5 27 24 3 24
10 Odd Grenland 17 5 7 5 27 28 -1 22
11 FK Haugesund 17 5 6 6 25 24 1 21
12 Brann 17 4 6 7 23 27 -4 18
13 Molde 17 4 6 7 26 33 -7 18
14 Hønefoss BK 17 3 4 10 10 32 -22 13
15 Kongsvinger IL 17 3 2 12 14 36 -22 11
16 Sandefjord 17 1 4 12 11 27 -16 7

A few more hardened followers of European comps (CL, Europa Cup UEFA Cup) might recognise a couple of the teams. Who can forget NOT ME   Rosenborg who killed off Blackburn's European dreams a few years ago, and Lillestrom who tasted some European success in the 80's.

The Russian Premier League also started back in March, but they decided to take 2 months off through May and June. I guess they must have decided thet they were going to qualify for the WC.

Here's the table so far

Pos Team.... Pld W D L.... F A Diff Pts
1 Zenit 13 10 3 0 20 5 15 33
2 CSKA Moscow 13 8 3 2 21 10 11 27
3 Rubin Kazan 13 7 5 1 13 3 10 26
4 Spartak Nalchik 13 6 4 3 17 13 4 22
5 Lokomotiv Moscow 13 6 3 4 18 12 6 21
6 Rostov 13 6 1 6 14 19 -5 19
7 Tom Tomsk 13 5 3 5 16 18 -2 18
8 Dynamo Moscow 13 4 6 3 15 13 2 18
9 Terek Grozny 13 4 5 4 13 12 1 17
10 Spartak Moscow 12 4 4 4 14 13 1 16
11 Anzhi Makhachkala 13 3 4 6 15 16 -1 13
12 Amkar Perm 13 3 3 7 9 15 -6 12
13 Alania Vladikavkaz 13 3 3 7 13 21 -8 12
14 FC Saturn 13 2 5 6 9 13 -4 11
15 Sibir Novosibirsk 12 2 2 8 14 24 -10 8
16 Krylia Sovetov 13 2 2 9 8 22 -14 8

I guess there are a few more teams here that many would recognise. Zenit (St Petersburg) of course beat Glasgow Rangers two years ago to win the UEFA Cup. But ther have been other great sides to come out of Russia. Spartak, Dynamo, CSKA and even Locomotiv have all had success in European competitions.

And on to the Swedish League.

Pos Team....... Pld W. D. L... F A. Diff Pts
1 Helsingborg 14 11 2 1 20 6 14 35
2 Malmo 15 9 3 3 29 18 11 30
3 Orebro 15 8 2 5 20 17 3 26
4 Mjällby AIF 15 7 4 4 18 11 7 25
5 Elfsborg 15 6 6 3 30 19 11 24
6 Kalmar 15 5 7 3 19 18 1 22

9 GAIS 15 4 6 5 12 16 -4 18
10 Halmstads 15 5 2 8 15 21 -6 17
11 Djurgarden 15 4 4 7 14 18 -4 16
12 Gefle 15 4 4 7 14 18 -4 16
13 Hacken 14 4 4 6 13 18 -5 16
14 A.I.K.Solna 15 4 3 8 13 19 -6 15
15 Trelleborg 15 4 3 8 12 24 -12 15
16 Åtvidabergs 15 3 4 8 14 24 -10 13

Trelleborg actually have an official supporters club in Burnley. Why? Because it was little, semi-proffessional side Trelleborg that knocked out the "mighty" moneybags Blackurn in the European Cup way back in 1995. Forever in our hearts  Malmo is the most successful club with Gothenburg also making many european appearances.

Good thing they did - Luke Wilkshere was our best player at the WC and he's with Dynamo Moscow.

The Russian league is actually a pretty good standard IMO. Saw a bit of it while living in the motherland and it was generally pretty good.

I nearly forgot Thomas Myhre at Kongsvinger IL. Myhre spent many years in and around the EPL, starting at Everton for 3 seasons, then Birmingham and Rangers, before moving back to Everton. He also went on to play for Tranmer, Sunderland, Palace, then sunderland again and finally Charlton. Another player at the end of his career

Agreed.

Dynamo also have Andriy Voronin who was at Liverpool for a couple of years. I don't think he got enough opportunities with the Reds, but he does have a good scoring average of 1 in 3 over the last 10 years, which is pretty consistent.
