Car Chases

I want to specifically take this thread to the direction of Car Chases. I haven't done a full search of the site to see if anyone has done a car chase thread, but was re-watching 'Bourne Identity' tonight and it has a great chase. I LOVE a great car chase. Here's a few just from movies I love with one minute to think about it, but happy to hear any suggestions, in case I've never seen the movie.

Blues Brothers
Ronin
Bullitt
Matrix 2
Indiana Jones 3 (in the tank)

I didn't nominate a stack of others, as prefer to see the feedback on what other like
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

There's a great featurette on The French Connection Special Edition DVD about the famous car-chase.

Director Billy Friedkin sat in the back seat the whole time giving it to the stunt driver.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoPI0MRAVB4

Producer Philip D'Antoni wanted to make the best car chase scene of all-time in Bullit. Did it then looked to top that with his next film.

Did that, too...

The end of Dead Poets Society where Robin Williams leaves the class room for the last time, and all the students are standing on their desks... Always brings a tear to my eye:

"Thank you boys, thank you."

Mel Gibson is a bit out of favour these days but his 2006 film "Apocalypto" demonstrates his power as a director. My favourite scene is when the very young oracle girl confronts the Mayan warriors

"You fear me? So you should. All you who are vile. Would you like to know how you will die? The sacred time is near. Beware the blackness of day. Beware the man who brings the jaguar. Behold him reborn from mud and earth. For the one he takes you to will cancel the sky, and scratch out the earth. Scratch you out. And end your world. He's with us now. Day will be like night. And the man jaguar will lead you to your end"

The sniper scene from Saving Private Ryan.

Also the two tense scenes from Inglourious Basterds.
The first where he's hiding the Jews in the cellar.
And the second when they're pretending to be German soliders in the bar.

Ronin has the best car chase in history, without doubt. Closely followed by that Steven Seagal movie (Hard to get?) where he chases the BMW driving Rastas through a shopping mall.

I haven't seen a nomination for Escape to Victory yet, starring Sly Stallone and Pele. Great movie, the burning line for me being the kid calling out to sly, "Hatch, Hatch". Cant nominate a particular scene of special significance, but loved the movie.

One Day in September - when the Mossad kill any of the killers who had been involved in the Munich hostage drama with Israeli athletes.

I love Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Especially Sloane. ;) But a fave was when Ferris and co went to a swish restaurant and using a name he saw in the reservations book, the maitre D asks Ferris if he is really "the sausage king of New York?". I also like the scene where the car valet "parks" the Ferrari.

The Shawshank Redemption - full of great scenes, as was the Green Mile.

Bad Boy Bubby is a sensational movie. Must revisit that sometime!

Star Wars is immortal but Lord of the Rings was pretty special too - the battle scenes especially.

Steve Martin in "The Jerk" - quote: (Black) Parents to (Steve Martin) "Its time to tell you son. You're not our natural born child".

The scenes with "Jaws" in James Bond flicks.
Steve Bradbury and Michael Milton. Aussie Legends.

I watched this again with my old man the other night and questioned him non-stop (he's a bit of a WW2 buff), and even hours after it finished I couldn't help but feel f*&$ed off still.

I have a special edition DVD with about 4 documentaries on the true story behind the movie. If you are interested in the history of it I'd recommend this too you. The movie is surprisingly close to the true story in terms of how they planned and did the escape and what went wrong. One difference was that in real life the escape was in winter with snow. About 4 or so really did escape and 50 were murdered by the Gestapo. Allegedly Hitler wanted them all shot however he was talked down to a "compromise" of 50. He wanted to make an example of them to discourage future escape attempts.
In between signatures .....

Didn't mind the chase in 'Diamonds are forever' and the classic 'gadget' chase in 'Goldfinger'.

Pay it Forward.

After Haley Joel Osment's character is killed, and they have the candlelight vigil out the front of his home.

Still brings a tear to my eye... :(

That would be Abe Froman The Sausage King of Chicago

Great scene though.

Snooty Maitre D': I appreciate your understanding.
Ferris: Don't think twice. It's understanding that makes it possible for people like us to tolerate a person like yourself.
Maitre D': Thank you.
Ferris: Don't mention it.
