Great read, especially about the Luna Park ghost train fire.

Does Marx include an account of the time he got absolutely legless at lunch and lead a failed coup at ACP to become editor of Picture magazine, holing up in the editor's office for hours?

If he does, I haven't got to that chapter yet. Interesting perspectives on the stories of Hookes and Hutchence, to name two well known stories. The other unknown stories are equally intriguing.

I've read some of his other stuff as well, I like his writing style - it appeals to my cynical side.

Finally got around to reading Richard Dawkins' Blind Watchmaker last week. Completely brilliant.

Of course it's all crap and some non-existent mythical being made everything.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

His best, IMO. Though I have still to read "The Selfish Gene".

I was introduced to his work back in the '80s via a documentary on The Blind Watchmaker. This should be available online; hunt it down and have a look. Biomorphs are more interesting on the screen than they are in text :)

Executive Orders by Tom Clancy

Absolutely my kind of book, and it is going to work as Harry Potter and Twilight did for me.

Watched the second or third HP, and got so into it, and loved the characters, that I had to read all the books, and watch the movies from the start.

Same deal with Twilight.

Only realised half way thru this book that this is based on Harrison Ford's character in Patriot Games too.

Will be reading the entire story!!!

I think I said earlier on this thread I was going to read Breath by Tim Winton? I reckon it's just about the best thing he's written to date and that's high praise from me - he's my favourite author. The prose is really stripped back - what I mean to say is, the narrator speaks plainly, not extravagantly - but there's tremendous power in the sparsity of words if they're the right words. I thought it was just such a well-crafted book.
