Was only a matter of time before it came up though.

I'd thought he'd still need a clearance as he's played footy somewhere else in Australia this year.

Jumping to conclusions. Meet a bloke at the pub from NSW and we were talking bout footy and how he would love to come out for a 'Israel Folou'. I knew the deadline had passed but didnt know if we could still register him.

But while we on it could we still register Edwards? He is back from O/S and he does have some spare time.

He would need to be cleared from his local club he was with when he joined Westies

But he would not have been registered with them for more than 2 years....doesnt sound right

I thought he would need a clearance from the AFL

i wouldnt think tyson would be able to get a permit, have no real reason behind it but there is no point haveing the dead line if everyone can get one.

doesnt matter
The South Australian clearance rules requires AFL/SANFL players to obtain a clearance from their last registered local club regardless of how long since they have played there - the rule is in to encourage players to return to their club of origin

Even if he never played for a senior club besides West Adelaide?
IIRC he is from the Mallee and moved to Adelaide to play juniors for Westies

this may help from the SAAFL rules & regs

11 PLAYER CLEARANCES (TRANSFERS)
11.1 A player desiring to register as a player of The League and whom
a) has played an official match in any other Australian Football league or association or
Member Club, during the last twenty-four (24) months and was over the age of 15 at the
time of such previous registration and/or
b) has played with or was registered with any club prior to, or at the same time, as playing in
the SANFL (regardless of how long ago this may have been)
must request and obtain a clearance from the other league or association or Member Club
where such player was previously registered
and this clearance application must be lodged
with The League in accordance with Clause 11.2, during the period from the first day of
February to the thirtieth day of June in the year in which the clearance application is sought.

There are no such things as clearances in the AFL
If he stops playing in the AFL he reverts back to his club he was drafted from, West Adelaide, if he chooses not to play SANFL he must be cleared from his original club

But dont blokes play SANFL one week then amateurs the nxt. Hopefully common sense prevails and Iggies get their man. Westies wouldnt have any grounds to stop the registration except they want him, couldn't see it getting knocked back.

my understanding is the permit is ok for players who have either proof of an injury, lived in different state or have not registered for a couple of years anywere
